hey guys, im starting a monotub and using rye berries for spawn. Im going to throw gypsum into the substrate mix(for obvious reasons) and am wondering if the gypsum I got is alright to use for agricultural use, as I have recently seen "agricultural gypsum being sold"
anyone know?

It will be fine. You can use any type of gypsum from drywall to agricultural.

I'm curious, where did you get your rye berries from? I am trying to find them at or under $1 a lb.

Well once I seen it over $1 a pound at a health food store. But if you buy it at a feed store you can get a 50 pound bag for $15-$25, less if you get lucky.

Only thing to be careful of with gypsum is if you get the ground up drywall variety, it is occasionally from antifungal treated walls. The other thing to watch for is it will sometimes have fiberglass in it. Most of it out there is fine, though.

if you get the ground up drywall variety you're the one doing the grinding they don't sell drywall that has been smashed solely for the gypsum. I would think if you're too stupid to realize you have greenboard it's your own fault.

The brand I find here locally ("Arizona's Best") states quite clearly that it is recycled construction material. Its the color of drywall, and I occasionally find chunks of stucco and paper in it. I actually stopped using it out of annoyance and just started making my own from plaster of paris.

I use Plaster of Paris. PoP is formed by heating gypsum to 300 degrees. Once it's hydrated it turns back into gypsum.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever used this brand. It is most definetley not recycled contstru. material
and the rye berries were expensive, I ordered off amazon and that's why, I wont do that again. I found a sponsor with 25lb bags for like 26 bucks I think.

Yeah that brand looks fine. Calcium sulfate dihydrate, you're good to go.

Rye berries exist at $1 a lb. It is all about living in the right area and buying at the right time. I just have not had the luck, yet...
Yeah Whole foods has rye berries at $1.20+ a lb. To my surprise this is the cheapest I have seen them in my area. I have literally left whole foods with 20lbs of rye berries in those brown paper bags. I probably wiped their supply clean for weeks. The Whole Foods I live near now is smaller and does not carry rye berries.
I wish i lived near the Azure Standard drop points...
