Hey so Ive always been one of these guys... SFD between lid and band.
So Im making a bunch of one piece lids w silicone. 2 questions, how long does the silicone take to cure that its ok to rum thru PC cycle , and does it really matter if you put filter on top or bottom? Ive seen both wys I put on underside cause it looks neater

You should let it cure for 24 hours

Yea, I run whole sfds under the lids and you can see how they concave after the pc cycle. I wouldn't put that much trust in silicone lol but many ppl do it that way If I were you and it's not too late id put em on top. Ya know, cuz it may work for a while but eventually fail and you not realize it

So you're attaching a regular metal lid to a band with silicone? Why? If it's to get it off easier, just use the lid metal side down and work on technique getting it off.
If you just want a one-piece lid, get some plastic lids. The thicker cellulose filters like Out-Grow and Aloha have are meant to go under the lid, so they work perfect with plastic lids. They're about a buck each unless you buy a shitload, but they've all lasted me for probably 50-60 cycles now with no signs of fucking up.
Obviously drill a hole in the plastic lid.

No dude what I was doing before was just putting an SFD (from fungi perfecti, thiers are pretty nice) between the lid and band.. just held in place by the band no silicone.
But I decided to go this way instead... It seems pretty popular I see alot of members doing this. It stretchs the filters a ways.
I only use jars as masters to pour into spawn bags so I dont need tons of lids but its more cost effective than using a whole SFD per jar.

When you use a whole SFD under the plastic lids you just trim it and pop it underneath?

You'd get more grain crap on the filter from shaking if you put it inside the jar, as opposed to just a little bit where the hole is if it's outside. That would pretty much seal the deal on which way to do it for me, if I'm understanding what you are saying correctly. Definitely glue it closely around the hole so grains can't slip up and under the filter.
I think I'm going to cut out the center of my ptyvek lids and glue on a small piece of SFD. They may not last forever, but it only uses a small piece of filter, and it's easy.
I think that damn tyvek has been asphyxiating my spawn
Also, I believe silicon cures pretty damn fast in the PC cycle, but I usually wait 24 hours anyway incase that fast curing makes for a weaker connection.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

I've ran silicone through the PC after a 1-2 hour cure. Still gooey in the center but firmed up on the outside. Probably not a good practice but it dint break seal or deform.
