Transgender animals would be much harder to find and study IMO. It's something that for it to visibly change, you'd need to have a cosmetic difference between genders.
Homosexuality has been studied and found throughout thousands of species. Finding transgendered animals would be MUCH harder to find.

Not really. Gender differences aren't cosmetic, but behavioral. Most species exhibit gendered behavior, so it wouldn't be that hard. In the doc, it shows how scientists were able to create transgender lab mice. To find transgender animals, you'd just have to round up all the animals of a given sex and then inspect their behavior for patterns typically associated with the other sex of that species.

I've definitely encountered a Transgender animal.
I used to have this male pigeon that was convinced that he was a hen. It was pretty cute.

I didn't account for gender behavior, hmmm. It'd probably have to continuously watch a certain animal that might have transgender traits. And to confirm it behaves like the opposite gender. And then maybe a brain scan to confirm?

Birds would probably be the most likely to have a significant amount of transgender(other than maybe apes). There are parrots that have dialects from one group to another, many birds can solve puzzles, and there has been TONS of evidence of homosexual or bisexual birds.

auratus cichlids. the males have bright yellow horizontal stripes, but once sexually mature, if there is more than 1 male, the most dominant one will retain his color, while the submissive ones will turn drab grey and black. This is the color of the females. Once the sub males change to female colors, the Dom male will tolerate them without beating them to death

Sheephead all start out as females, and the largest will actually change sex and become male. The males can grow much larger than the females, and the other smaller fish will remain female until such time as the male is removed from the area. Once the male is gone, the next biggest female will turn. other wrasses do this also. (most? all?)

I have no problem with adults deciding that they want a gender change, but children are not developed enough to make those types of decisions. Just like children are not developed enough to decide they want to tattoo their face up. That's why they have an adult to offer guidance until they can make their own decisions.
This has nothing to do with what they child "wants" to be. Gender identity is not determined by the sex organs. It is located in the brain and if a brain is sexed differently than the external genitalia, it is best to allow the child to live as the gender they identify with, not the one dictated by their genitalia.

Well, he could have told the truth about how he really feels...
...but that would out him as a bigot.
I imagine, if this thread were about Caitlyn Jenner, he'd complain she's too old at 65 or whatever, to transition... why didn't she chop her dick off sooner? Besides she is rich and famous and wealth and fame annoy him. Also, her voice/makeup/height/fashion sense sucks.
If it were about trans people in the military, well, for starters, they aren't brave...
If it were about Laverne Cox, he would complain about how he sees too many articles about this trans thing. He is sick and tired of it.
If this were about the abnormally high rates of trans suicide, he would find fault with why trans people always make it about themselves. Why can't they just be quiet? Then they wouldn't face any backlash and they would be less suicidal. They should grow a pair and suck it up.
Sadly, I could go on... it has all been said, even in this thread.
And yet, we both know he already lacks the testicular fortitude required in order to transition to female.

There's a cuttlefish living in the Oosterschelde that can mimmick being a female to mate sneakily with the real females behind the big males backs.
I'm not sure if that counts, tho.

Appreciate the legit examples of cross-gendered behavior in nature. Not sure if those are true "trans-gender" example, but definitely quality discussion and pretty much gives some precedence in nature. I also appreciate the examples of homosexuality in nature too. So many times you hear people making claims that it doesn't exist in nature, when in reality it happens pretty frequently. I definitely think this thread has changed my views a bit on trans people, for the better. Not that I had a bad view of trans people before, but now I feel like I understand it a bit more a deeper level (if that's possible).
