She's pretty cool. I like that show. I like that season 3 touched on the issue of trans inmates being put in solitary "for their own protection" though it was pretty depressing to watch because that shit happens all the time. BTW, I picked my girl name over ten years ago, in case you were wondering
Laverne Cox is amazing. I liked it when she was "the face of the transgender movement". Caitlyn reaches more people but Laverne is pure class and IMO sets a flawless example for trans women who can't afford $4mil of plastic surgery or a mass media rollout.

I thought the tranny was the main characters boyfriend, who identified as a woman, hiding undercover as a man, who played the part of a woman on a failing webseries, who posed as a man to go undercover and expose its girlfriend for being a criminal.
I like all the parts in that show where they act surprised something doesn't go their way. They're all "wtf, the guards aren't doing what i asked them to,why not?"
Honestly that show makes jail look fun. Like a minor inconvenience or a summer camp. If there were a man equivalent to that prison i would totally signup for it.

Ok watched the documentary, it was interesting and I enjoyed it, thanks for sharing.

good explanations of several things.
It does seem that the people in this video take the view that sex is biological and gender is self perception.
If I am not mistaken you disagree with this?

The part of the video that I thought most relevant is where it describes how gender identity is anatomically defined and innate, rather than being conditioned or otherwise learned.

Is there any evidence that gender identity exists in other animals? Or is this something that is exclusive to humans?

Gender identity is a human/social phenomenon but its essential neuroanatomical basis exists in other mammals.

Do you think gender identity is a product of the modern world and living well outside of our original evolutionary/natural context? I wonder if gender dysphoria exists in primitive hunter gatherer tribes (like in Africa for example) and if so, how far back does the evidence go to support this claim. Is it possible that gender dysphoria is a product the stress and unnatural modern world in which we live?
Perhaps there is a cause/effect related to societal pressures that simply wouldn't exist in a hunter gather setting without modern conveniences. I mean most people living off the land have a different type of stress to worry about. Hope you get what I saying without taking offense. I am not claiming any of these things be true (or untrue), rather just bringing these things up for discussion.

Trans people exist in precolonized/tribal societies, for example Two-Spirits in the Americas. There is an African equivalent but I can't think of the word for it off the top of my head. Either way, there can be no doubt that transgender identities precede modern conditions and are represented among all human societies.
You might be right that gender dysphoria is a product of modern society, because modern society doesn't have much of a "system" in place for representing transgender identities aside from shoving them into the binary identity other than what they were assigned at birth.

At 2 minutes and 30 seconds it differentiates anatomical sex (body parts) and gender identity (sense of self as male, female or other).

They talk about the mammalian brain having a "male circuit" and a "female circuit"... that was my favorite part.
