Blindsophist:

1. How do you define "transgender"?

2. What are the greatest misconceptions about transgender people?

3. What are the things transgender people most want others to know and understand ?

4. What common ideas or statements about transgender people / transgender as a concept do you find most offensive or problematic and why?

5. What legal, social or cultural changes do you think are most needed to better support and accommodate trans people ?

6. What are the greatest struggles , challenges or problems faced by trans people ?

I think providing your opinions on these and other questions would be hugely helpful and informative for everyone here , and a much more productive use of your time and energy then squabbling post by post with everyone . Assume people know nothing about transgender and provide people with a basic Intro, Q&A or FAQ.

You have a unique opportunity to educate , but you need to switch gears from "battle" mode to "teach" mode,

Calling people bigots will accomplish nothing but alienating those who could be allies. Assume everything we think is wrong , and provide us with what you see as
The truth about these issues .

Most people are not well informed about these issues at all. You have a great deal more experience and knowledge of these issues then almost anyone else. So provide your perspectives as a foundation rather then bickering over every choice of word or imagined subtext you ascribe or project onto others.

I think it's pretty fucked up that you think it's my responsibility, rather than your own, to account for your ignorance. There's this thing called Google, you can use it to search for information. A world of knowledge is at your fingertips and here you are asking me to write a fucking thesis paper because you are too lazy to type words into a search engine. I have wasted enough of my time in this thread already, it is time for you to do some of the work.

Dude that is never been my argument. My argument is why can't you be trans without adding hormones to your body that shouldn't be there.

You don't seem to understand that they should be there. Hormones have more than cosmetic functions and gender dysphoria is more than a cosmetic issue. Hormones affect moods as well and gender dysphoria can be a severe medical issue when a person's entire neuropsychological framework is incompatible with the hormones being issued by their gonads.

The main reason I started hormones wasn't to grow breasts, it was to fix my mood problems, because I was on track to die of an overdose by the time I was 30. It worked practically overnight. It cured my meth addiction. I don't even get cravings anymore. It's been 14 months. Seriously. No higher power, no support groups, no fucking shit. It's because my moods and emotions aren't systematically destroying my life anymore. My brain is at harmony and functioning properly for the first time since I hit puberty.

Being trans is not a mental illness. It is merely a variation on the human blueprint which is taken for a mental illness by the ignorant.

OOooh. Are you gonna give me a check-minus, with a frowny face? Maybe a terse note for my parents about how I don't play well with others? :whatever:

I think you are doing a disservice to your own cause , and wasting an opportunity, while also coming across in a negative light as an individual.

I think you are doing yourself too much of a service by calling your thread, which is filled with ignorance and hostility including your own, an "opportunity" for me. This thread has not been my idea of an opportunity.

Evidently you saw it as an opportunity to post dozens of times and to write several pages of your opinions.

If you didn't see it as an opportunity , why have you participated so extensively and why do you remain in the thread?

It's called "damage control"

I get a bit numb to questioning. Did you see Moonshoe's worksheet at the top of this page? At a certain point the impulse becomes to say "fuck off, you're not my schoolteacher". I do not come here to fill out questionnaires or to get interrogated, I come here to relax and share laid-back conversation.

I engage in constructive, logical debate fairly often.

And when do I slander anybody? I am the one getting slandered in this thread.

Answering the questions I asked would take far less time , and be far more productive , then the twelve pages of crankey paranoid butthurt you posted all over this thread. Judging by your contributions in this thread you are not pressed for time and you seem determined to speak your mind about trans issues at great length but when I pose a few questions suddenly you can't be bothered

You could even just answer one or two of them , they were just suggestions .

But the fact that you feel compelled to bitch about what you see as everyone else's mistaken views but find it absurd that someone would dare to ask you some relevant questions is telling.

1. Ask a dictionary.

2. do a google search for "transgender misconceptions"

3. We are the gender we say we are. End of discussion.

4. -Trans people are "freaks"
-Trans people are "really" the gender they were assigned at birth
-Trans women are all prostitutes
-Trans women are "extremely gay men"
-Medical transition is a strictly cosmetic or elective process undertaken by people with image problems
-Trans people have all the free time in the world to serve as Educators in their communities and are emotionally detached enough from their personal experiences not to take offense when their experiences are misstated and trivialized
-Cis people know better than trans people about what it is like to be trans and have more valuable opinions on the matter

5. People need to be willing to educate themselves about transgender issues and rights before they say and do things which harm transgender people. This includes people from all walks of life, from DMV clerks to doctors.

6. Hatred. Pure and simple.

There, does that help?

Ten misconceptions about transgender

Myth 1) Getting a job as a trans person is just like getting a job as a gay person.

Myth 2) Dating for transgender people is just like LGB dating.

Myth 3) “Don’t pay attention to what others say.” “Just love yourself.” “Words only have power if you give them power.”

Myth 4) Geography doesn’t matter.

Myth 5) Career field doesn’t matter.

Myth 6) Everyone knows the difference between drag and transgender.

Myth 7) Race doesn’t matter in these discussions.

Myth 8) “No, stop. You’re hurting me,” means “Keep doing what you’re doing.”

Myth 9) “Transgender” has clear definitions.

Myth 10) One voice can speak for all of us.

http://everydayfeminism.com/2014/11/misconceptions-trans-ally-understand/

I was hoping to learn something new but I never had any of these misconceptions myself. I would be surprised if these misconceptions are very common .
