Does anyone follow a certain ritual before & after taking shrooms? I don't condone anyone who might think differently, but i just believe that whenever we want to communicate with "the other side", we want to respect the sacred realm(s) we are about to enter. I've been to a few santo daime (ayahuasca) gatherings here in brazil, and I'm also a big fan of Umbanda. Over here we usually use natural incense to "clean" the whole room, your aura etc.. We can also take a bath we different kind of herbs etc.. Prayers and chanting are also helpul.

In Mexico, Gordon Wasson attended a mushroom velada, as reported in LIFE Magazine, May 13, 1957. (The term "seánce" does not apply to the use of psychedelics. The practice is bogus when its intention is to contact one's dearly departed, but can be dangerous to the deceived hopeful's mental and spiritual health). The presiding curendera, known today as Maria Sabina, did not use them in sacramental fashion because she was a Catholic. She used them in a divinatory manner. Personally, I use them in a sacramental fashion. We usually use ritual cups to take the mushroom-cinnamon apple sauce mixture (I prefer the Lemon Tec, but my wife and our friend do not like the rapid come-on). I say a very brief prayer before we imbibe. The house is illuminated by colored votives, and candles, no electric light. We use Indian sandalwood incense and Tibetan incense. We usually use hand-picked Grateful Dead improvisational music, but if we've dosed heavily, Ravi Shankar ragas are the only thing that one's nervous system does really well on. They have the ability to facilitate hyper-pranic conditions and minimize negative mental and bodily side effects.
