Bunk syringe - reinoculate?
    #21908887 - 07/07/15 09:39 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I have 3 quarts of rye that I inoculated a a week and a half ago. 2 jars I inoculated with a syringe I purchased. 1 jar I inoculated with a syringe I made from a spore print. The 1 I made is showing colonization down the entire side by the port and the bottom. The other 2 don't show the slightest hint of fuzz. I know agar is the preferred method and I am working on that, but these three jars were for a monotub and I don't want to try to pull it off with only one quart of spawn. Can I reinoculate the other two jars with one of my syringes? I know this increases the chance of contamination but they seem dead in the water as it is.

Thanks
OPB

I've had stubborn syringes that I did this on and they germinated 3 days later.

That's super interesting. I will have to keep that in mind for the future! I am thinking though that I will just use my spore syringe this time because I've found most of this suppliers syringes to be hugely dissapointing. I am more than happy to squirt them down the drain.

I can't wait to have a strong supply of agar cultures so that I can just ditch syringes all together.
