Maybe a very thin layer of Vaseline around the rim would keep them from sticking?... just like with the AA PC.

Update: No contams yet. I've used these to make a number of transfers. I would say that they are ideal with one exception. The dam lids sticking. I'm going to see if I can fix this issue.

These actually seem decent. But I agree with Bodhi, you're solving a problem that doesn't exist. Pouring agar into real petris is cheap and easy.

The bottom is aluminum which isn't perfect but hasn't been an issue for me.

As stated in the first post you can use these for pour agar. The advantage is they are reusable unlike plastic while also being tougher than glass and quite a bit cheaper as well. The fact that they work for no pour is just a bonus.

Update: these little dishes are certainly doing the trick!
Here are a number of dishes in various stages of growth and transfer. This is 3 cube strains and an P. Galindoi ATL #7.

So far I've had one trich contaminated but this these are multispore so that's no surprise.
There are a couple which have sticky lids which I am going to take some sandpaper to to try to remedy but many slip right on and off without issue.
I now have 36 of them so there will be more testing to come!

Never say trich. You don't want your plates to do the trich.

This is a great idea! I have been trying to find some kind of no pour device that actually allowed viewing from the top. Bravo OPB!

Actually love this idea a lot and with a bit of searching this is the best I found: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/144Pc-Aluminium-Container-Jars-with-Glass-Lids-in-a-Wooden-Box-Display-1-9cm-D-/181782796176?nav=SEARCH
Man it would cool having a glass case to view them all, I'll wait till you've trailed and errored them a bit more to smooth out the kinks. Amazing idea though!

That display would be cool but it wouldn't be very useful for transfers because those tins are so small. You could however just use it for long term storage as a slant case of sorts! If you could figure it out you could store your master cultures on the wall and call them art!

Now I really wish I hadn't order 36 of these tins. These are a half inch wider and only 1/8 inch deeper for $4.99 for 12! So that's under 42 cents each for aluminum body glass top petris.

You can make the same thing with a tuna can, ring from a widemouth jar, and some transparent packing tape.

Depends on how long it takes the cats to lick it clean.
I don't use tuna cans as petris but I use them as cases when oven sterilizing my glass petris.
