I don't think he is quite overrated. When I think of overrated I think of Tarantino. However Spielberg suffers from the "for the whole family" syndrome which make him kind of lame imo.

yeah him, but Tarantino is however overrated. i agree. i like his first film for it's simplicity and it's structure. i love Pulp Fiction, and is at his best and a original film by all means. his efforts have been so drenched in gooiness that tis just little bit beyond my depth by now.

no they are technically and innovatively compelling but certainly not underrated. they have a lot of hype around everything they do and they certainly can start to feel pretty stock for awhile. that's the definition of overrated in the film industry for me.
if it's always fresh, then this sort of "stock-feel" ceases to exist.

that's just the way their art is, there may be similar aspects in all their films, but their work is still pretty original and fresh
it's not even that they are overrated, it's just that the fans loved their movies so much they eventually over did it and got tired of them eventually, that;s not necessary the fault of the artist.

no, it isn't, but another reason it's overrated and that that is bad for the artist's reputation, is because, simply put, it detract's from publicity for other respectable artist's (which it's fine by the way to want publicity but i'll get to my point in a second), but it sets expectation's so high, like you said, that the films get less and less production effort, and we get given glossy myopic scripts and scenes and it's a style sure but is it any growth as 'an artist'? sure film can just be for fun... but this expectation's takes away from the lore of a good plot, the look of a great film, and while techniques are shared all the time, the redundancy of the making of the same kinda films all the time, it starts to rely too heavily on a formula. it's fine, i never said they were "bad director's".

I got Cowboy Bebop in the mail today, it was a newly released blu-ray I got on amazon for 30bucks
It's one of my favorite series, I really didn't want to watch it again though.
Watching it for the first time colloquially it represents to me a lot of world music mixed with mid western culture.
it draws you in as so to speak
I used to watch it and think I was watching the Soprano's for Cartoon Network Some of the music is either fusion, harlem bebop or harlem ragtime i can't remember
one of those
