My father is overly religious

My father is what I would describe as a religious nut job. Plain and simple, that's what he is. He abandons all logical thought or even the ability of basic reasoning when it comes to Christianity.
Talks about how the Bible clearly says that women should be submissive to men and that they don't possess the same level of intellect as men, says that the Bible favors marrying within your race, and just generally crazy shit that he has no basis for believing.
If you try to have s discussion with my Dad about anything, anything at all, he almost always turns it into a religious conversation, even if it isn't remotely related to religion. If you question him about it he'll get this stupid smug look and say "Well, everything comes back to God at the end of the day, since he created everything, it's only natural that every conversation shift towards God at some point.
How am I supposed to respect someone who is just constantly espousing their ignorance? Anyone else with family like this?

Yes but he agrees with it, even though deep down (or maybe not that deep down) he knows there is no logical basis for such a statement

Like any good Christian I pick and choose what I agree with from the Bible, and I agree women should be submissive to their man. It's been tried and tested for centuries and proven to work best.

They say their 'God' is so great, then why did he make a huge mistake and have to pretty much wipe out the population on earth and restart with noah and the flood?
I don't think the real god would ever commit genocide like that

That's not genocide. God didn't target a specific brand of DNA that I know of.
Now AIDS with the gays/blacks...
Cool thing about religion is that you can use it to justify anything. Well, God wrote this book and I interpreted it as me being an agent of god. Sorry folks, you gotta give me your stuff.

OP, if you wanna piss your dad off. read the bible, and counter his nastyness with some uplifting jesus shit. The bible is a big book, and can be used to support many claims, both good and evil ones. I use these a lot when people try to justify hate with the bible
Quote:
Luke 6 New International Version (NIV) 37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
and
Quote:
Matthew 7 New International Version (NIV) 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
also this one "the golden rule"
Quote:
Matthew 7 New International Version (NIV) 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Damn OP I feel for you, Idk if I'd be able to handle my family being that way but I'm sure it be different if I grew up with them always being like that.
My parents fortunately didn't raise me with religion, and the only talks of god I ever remember having with them was me saying I didn't believe in one when I was young and my dad just said you better haha and that was literally it for my family and god.
The only thing you can do really is accept him for who he is, at my work I have religious diehards who are the EXACT same way you describe your dad, and every single sentence ends with "thanks to our lord Jesus" or something like that, and also talking to me without even considering that maybe I don't believe what they believe.
I've learned just to let them speak, and I've learned passages and quotes so that I can have conversations with them, I'm sure it's harder then it sounds but you just have to realize that what your dad believes doesn't affect you, it might seem to because if you bring up science for example, he might turn around and say it's hocus pocus because the bible explains it, and you got to just leave it at that because it wouldn't make a difference even if you convinced him it's wrong.
Learn what not to bring up to him, and find common interest, and only talk about them. If he's unwilling to accept science for example, then just don't talk about science with him. Or he spews some bible bullshit at you, just nod your head, even if it's wrong, because convincing him otherwise wouldn't benefit you or him, especially him, at this point in his life and with how much he's probably tied to it based off what you said, it would probably fuck him up mentally if you were to convince him it's all bullshit.
You don't need to respect his opinion, just go along with it. Has he provided for you as a father? Has he worked hard? Does he at least try to offer wisdom if you're in times of confusion? Does he treat your mom right? Base your respect of him on things like that, his actions, but you shouldn't on his beliefs. I respect a lot of people who believe nonsense, but it's their minds to do with what they please, and I'm too stubborn to change my mind most of the time, so it's only fair that I allow other people to be just as stubborn with what they believe.
