Transferring Grain To Manure

I have some pan Cyan grain and im planning to transfer it to a aluminum pan to mix it with the manure. My question is, how do i go about mixing it? do i close the lid and shake it up? or should i lay the grain down first and the manure down on top of that and just let it colonize?

Shake that grain jar up first. Then mix it evenly with the manure and make sure the surface is as flat as possible without compacting the mix. Replace the foil, punch some tiny holes covered with micropore tape for GE and let colonize for 7 days+. I've read that Pan Cyans need a casing layer to fruit properly, so make sure you apply that to the surface once its 100%. Then let re-colonize until surface is 30% or just pop that into the SGFC. Good luck!!

what casing material do you use psilo? I dont have any casing layer left if I let it colonize before fruiting with pans..

50/50 Peat/Verm. Add a teaspoon or so of hydrated lime to get the pH down to 7 and your good to go. All the grow logs I've read, people highly recommend using casing layers.

and do you consistently get to have a casing layer left when fruiting starts? all my pan grows are way to aggressive colonizers for that..

I usually just fruit it after applying a 1/2" casing layer. It's really only for the microclimate, no need to let it re-colonize. Then I wait for the pin show to begin!

yeah thats what I do too, just saw you say let colonize to 30% which never works out well for me with pan cyans or cambos or whatevers.

Yeah its definitely unnecessary considering the casing layer isn't supposed to nutrient based to begin with. The last time I cased a golden teacher mini-mono I had a great pinset after applying a small casing layer and fruiting it right away. Also, misting is much more lenient with a casing, I'm always afraid I'll damage the growing pins in an uncased tub.

how do i mix it though? do i shake up the aluminum pan with the cover on it? or would a spoon/fork be safe to mix it without causing a contam?

If your substrate is properly pasteurized, and your grains fully colonized, technically you could mix it bare handed and be completely in the clear.
But given that we live in an imperfect world, gloves are a better options. Toss on some nitrile/latex gloves and just get in there and mix away. Personally when I'm mixing my edibles I also wear a facemask and hat, but that's just because I'm paranoid. No clue how resilient the Psilocybe species are in comparison, but probably similar enough.
