i also use recycled newspaper. you don't even have to pasteurize anything. just soak for an hour with warm water.

I use half gallons, and it comfortably fits 4. Next experiment will be to see if I can fit 4 bags with 5 quarts of grain in each.

Ah snap! To quote my Cambodian friend " now you talkin my /language/!"
Can't wait to do oysters. On Friday I intend to go to my local Asian grocer (really the only place I shop), stock my fridge, pick up agar and oysters, and clone one of those beauties. I have a lot of vegan friends so I'd love to cook up fresh, home grown mushrooms for them (and me!).

Have you seen the TED Talk "mushrooms can save the world"?
Fucking mind blowing and was a catalyst for me. Oysters can eat OIL, and transform previously decimated land into fertile fields again. Truly incredible- what a wonderful lifestyle, er, hobby.

I'm going to try to grow some King Oysters with my kids once my jars are colonized. Just inoculated them yesterday otherwise I'd snap a pic.
And yeah, I feel the same way about that TED talk. I'm afraid shit's going down real fast. Gotta figure out how to grow some food!

I've read excerpts - and yes I do need to get the whole book! Wonderful, applicable, important science; which, this community is helping to further.
