Brown mold/contaminant on cap... what could this be?
    #21903466 - 07/05/15 11:36 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I've done a few grows with monos but I'm encountering an issue that I haven't been able to find anyone else having. Over the last few days I've had a brown 'lump' growing over a few of the caps in 2 separate monos (see pic for visual). My first reaction was contaminant, but this doesn't seem to fit the usual profile and I can't find a mold that fits this exactly right. I'm talking about the tan colored lumps in the dead center of the caps. The lump is as hard as the rest of the shroom and does not scrape off, I'm unable to tell if the "mold" is becoming bigger on the cap.  The shrooms that have acquired this bump have been growing at normal pace the last few days and the cake is looking healthy as ever. I'm nearing my first flush with these two tubs, but am concerned that if this is an infection it may spread to be an even bigger issue infecting other tubs which have produced only clean healthy fruits. Anyone know or have a guess as to this is???

Bottom looks mutated. Top is blurry but looks like it could have a bacterial infection on the right side of the cap. Also looks like you could amp up the fae

Wow I am very impressed you can tell my lack of fae from this single picture  I'm aware it's lacking in this area and will adjust asap when my intended fruiting area is up and running again.

The sides of the caps are normal(some mycelium still clinging to some), it is only the middle tan bumps shown in three of the shrooms shown that have concerned me. You very well may be right that they are mutant, only the two monos with this strain have exhibited this mutation/contam or whatever it may be

And thank you personally Mad Season, you among many others have guided me through so much of the learning process of cultivation with your posts. You've helped more than I could ever thank you

It definitely is mutated. Bacterial stuff happens on the sides like you said. Those are edible.

Also that really means a lot to me . I only come on here in hopes of helping people. I'm so happy you feel that I have helped a lot
