steven kotler flow states and psilocybin effects same thing?
    #21903341 - 07/05/15 11:12 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I recently found that guys videos on youtube.
and it finally clicked that he is talking about same things that the psilocybin researchers talk about.

psilocybin decreases the brain activity. so does being in a flow state according to him;
and both reduce the prefrontal cortex activity.
did I understand it correctly?

I think when he is talking about flow states he is referring to the psychology terminology of "flow" which says that flow is a mental state where you're completely submerged or absorbed in what you are doing. What I understand from psilocybin research is that you are in a state of disorder because the part of the brain that orders things in a certain way is repressed.

what he is saying is that during flow state alot of your brain functions also shut slow down
theres few more videos he explains in more details in one of them.

where he says in flow state the prefrontal cortex also gets partially shut down

the psychology might be different but to me it seems that the brain reacts similar
