Quitting Smoking

I smoke about a pack a day.
I've completely conditioned myself to smoke for any reason and it's hard to break that conditioning now. I smoke when I'm bored or stressed or depressed. I smoke when I drink and after I eat. I smoke when I sit outside and read.
I have a cough all the time and feel short of breath. I'm 25 and used to be able to physically run circles around almost anybody. Now I try to blow some dust off of something and it sends me into a coughing fit.
I have a quickly approaching deep wilderness portage/backpacking trip coming up and if I continue to smoke like I am now I will probably die on it.
How did you quit smoking or otherwise greatly reduce the number of cigarettes you consume a day?

Quitting cold turkey while smoking is actually considered the best way to quit.

Ive converted over to vaping.. && haven't smoked a cigarette since. Its quite addictive being able to blow GIANT smoke clouds & chase them.
So much better than smoking cigarettes!!!
I used to smoke a pack a day, sometimes more....
Quiting is hard tho,

You can switch over to vaping and then taper off the nicotine. That is a good suggestion but only if you quit vaping.
I would suggest vaping over smoking cigarettes but it needs to also end because it is unhealthy. If that is not the reason for quitting smoking then nevermind. I guess vaping can at least make you not smell so bad.

You could quit cold turkey and smoke a joint a few times a day. I would also agree that vaping is a good choice as well. Wish you the best of luck!

Cold turkey isn't an option right now. I've been through several addictions and I know that you have to be at a certain point for cold turkey to work and unfortunately I'm simply just not there yet. I also don't smoke weed so joints is out of the question.
How much does it cost per month to get your nicotine through a vaporizer? Also how much will buying the actual vaporizer run me? Like, a decent one, not something exorbitantly expensive. As it stands I spend maybe $300 a month on cigarettes.

I tried to cold turkey a number of times before switching to a pipe for a period of years.

Cold turkey for smoking is healthcare standard. The #1 recommendation for quitting smoking is cold turkey. I was not just saying that randomly. Of course you know yourself, so you can be different.
Other addictions are different. You can die off of quitting cold turkey with alcohol for example.

A good atomizer + mod will cost you about $100 I got the "Atlantis v2" with a "CF mod" it takes a 18650 battery. (I recommend buying 2 or 3 batteries plus a charger for them so you can swap out on the go)
As far as nic (juice) I pay anywhere from $8-20 for a 15-30ml vial. Ranging from 3mg-12mg nicotine per ml.
A 6mg 30ml bottle will last me roughly 3 weeks..
Here's my set up:
"Atlantis v2"

"CF mod"

I know a guy who quit cold turkey. He left a pack of cigarettes on his counter top so he could look at it every morning and decide not to smoke any fucking cigarettes. I think he got through those subtle unconscious cravings by associating them with an overwhelming hatred for smoking. Hate and anger are pretty powerful for breaking ties with things. Maybe you should go buy a pack of cigs and crush them all one by one while you mother fuck them and everything they stand for. You've got to give up on the love of smoking. Darth Vader was right about some things.

I'm at well under a pack a day at the moment. Just thought I'd check in and mention that I've made some progress. A lot of the times when I go to have a cigarette now, I realize I don't want one or they make me feel like shit so I put them out half way.

Buy some organic tobacco and roll your own cigarettes. You'll probably smoke less and you'll enjoy it more. Win win.

Perhaps some type of conditioned taste aversion would help? Find a way to associate smoking with nausea/puking... classically re-condition yo self!

Do you know a good way to do that besides using drugs such as Champix?
I'm weary of trying Champix as I have a history of severe depression, and I already get nightmares and sleep paralysis a few times a week. Champix has sent two people I know off of the deep end while using it to quit smoking.

I've heard of people wearing rubber bands around their arms, snapping them sharply whenever they experience a craving. I suppose that might be a way to train the brain out of its compulsive thinking, but the physical withdrawals would definitely remain. Perhaps one of those sublingual sprays could mitigate that, I don't know. Cigarettes are not one of the addictions I've succumbed to.
