Investigators: 3-year-old eats marijuana-laced cookie in Anderson Township
Family found cookies in fridge at grandparents house, officials say
UPDATED 6:55 PM EDT Jul 04, 2015
ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio —Emergency crews responded to reports of a 3-year-old girl who ate marijuana-laced cookies in Anderson Township.
Investigators were called to the 7200 block of Gungadin Drive about 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Hamilton County sheriff deputies said a father, wife and their 3-year-old daughter had been at the grandparents house to watch fireworks.
Detectives said the grandparents were not home and the family found cookies in the fridge and ate one each.
A little while later the father said he started feeling funny, investigators said.
That's when officials said the family realized the cookies had marijuana.
911 Caller: "My wife and I had eaten them and then my daughter because we didn't' know, and so we're wigging out right now and we're just afraid she is too."
The child was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK, investigators said.
Detectives said no one has been charged in the incident.

Sucks that it happened, but in the end it's no ones fault. Those grandparents sound cool as shit though.
But the kid will be fine. Personally I think that taking her to the hospital was a bit too much. I accidentally drank beer when I was a little kid. They also gave me sedatives during a surgery once, I called it "goofy juice". Ended up flashing everyone. I bet that the weed edible was far safer for the kid than that.

3 year old accidentally eats pot, is fine but wants more cookies. Wow Cannabis is such a dangerous drug.
The chocolate was certainly more dangerous to the 3 year old than pot and in this case it's not a joke, chocolate poisoning can kill little kids.

Come on now. Pot has to be bad for a 3 year old. It's not going to kill anyone but that has to have a negative impact on brain development.

Pot abuse sure, but a single exposure, it's doubtful it will have any long term effects. THC interacts with cannabinoid receptors that are already there interacting with neurotransmitters. So sure the system got a little confused for a bit, but it didn't like rearrange her brain or anything. Whatever minor changes that happened will be corrected once the substance is no longer in her system.

I don't buy that. It goes against common sense.

This actually goes as fault to the grandparents. Just as one doesn't leave their opiate medication in random unmarked bottled one shouldn't leave their cannabis edibles out without them being marked and labeled as edibles of a certain strength. Cannabis overdose is easy.

How i imagine the 911 call should have gone
"honey, i think those cookies had some weed in them." "yeah, me too. we should call 911" "this is 911, whats your emergency?" "my family ate some cookies with pot in them!" "sir, this line is for emergencies." "but pot cookies!" "(dial tone....)"

You don't have to buy it for it to be true. "Common sense" is almost always bunk.
However tell me in detail what common sense says; what is the mechanism for permanent damage?

It's their own home. You could say it's unsafe for friends if a coke head leaves his coke laying around in lines on his table and under his coke cans because they don't know what it is but maybe they should mind their own fucking business to begin with. This is their home.

Reminds me of when my dad was living with me for a while and he went to make a chili. He thought the hot sauce in my fridge was Frank's Red Hot, but I had Blair's Sudden Death in it because I broke the cap for the bottle it was in. He put in a couple tablespoons. It was the most unbearable shit ever. He complained about my mislabelled hot sauce, I told him he should consider first what he's eating out of my fridge, especially because I make my own sauces.

I bet years from now, the grandparents will be eating ganja cookies with their grand kids laughing about this incident and their parents reactions.

Cannibis edibles is one thing that is easy to mistaken as a sweet treat rather than a possibly intoxicating substance.... On the other hand a line of coke is a line of coke and I doubt any cokehead leaves lines of coke under cola cans.... (eyeroll) As well as anyone putting lines of powder cannot tell me they are not trying to emulate cocaine. Now if someone leaves a pound of coke in their kitchen, unmarked, and mixed with bags of sugar, flour, etc. that would be the damn cokeheads fault if someone cooked a cake with coke instead of flour or sugar..... Just imagine that.

Dude, I'm a huge pot advocate. It has given me so much. I don't even need to ask if you're a parent- if you had a daughter you would see this differently. I don't even want my kids to hear curse words till they are a certain age. You wouldn't want your baby's brains temporarily scrambled for any reason.

People do leave lines and piles under cans so airflow doesn't blow it away.
If this were shrooms I'd be saying the same thing.

about 10 years ago, this chick friend of mine threw a houseparty. Someone brought her a bunch of little bags of K all in a bigger bag. she left the bag on her dining room table. hours later, we come back to the dining room to find all the baggies strewn about, ripped apart, and licked out. Her dog was k-holed at the foot of the stairs...for a awhile. everything worked itself out in the end.
