HI
I am preparing grains for inoculation from Agar Wedge. I have rye berry grains. The aim here is to have enough grain for 2 monotubs. Each Monotub is 70QT/66L sterilite.
Have the following questions:-
1. How much Rye berry grains in Quarts do i need to inoculate 2 monotubs? 2. Whats the best Process to follow for Grain Prep? 3. Is there any TEK that i could refer?
Regards Mystic

5 per tub is good. But I always like to make 6 just to have an extra jar in case of a contam. If all 6 make it, you can just stick the extra jar in the fridge and use it later for a G2G.

I just spawned two tubs That are 70qts
I used a total of 5 quarts of spawn per tub
1:2 ratio
And here are both on just the second day

However I use WBS so I can not help you out in rye berry prep.

I always use 5 or 6 quarts for 120 quart tubs so the same should be fine for 70. As far as grain, - throw it in a pot with an inch of water over it, let sit overnight. - strain grain and rinse it, pu it back in the pot with new water and bring it to a simmer while stirring it the whole time so the grains dont stick/burn/burst. Hold the simmer for a few minutes. - strain grains and let steam dry. I lay them out on a window screen. - fill jars 3/4, put on the lid type of your choice, cover with foil and pc. I only pc for an hour but 90 minutes is cool just to be safe.
Thats how i go about doing rye.

I use wbs. I like to wash the grain after the boiling process. I do this by putting the grain in a bucket, filling it with water, mixing it vigorously with my hand, emptying the water while keeping the grain, and repeating until the water is clean.

Hey guys!!
Thank You for your responses. I went out of town for the long weekend. I ended up hydrating the grains for almost 40 Hours. Is this an Issue?

Do you soak with gypsum or use it anywhere in the process before the wash? If so, when you wash after the boil you wash off the gypsum.

Light is beneficial during all stages of growth. Indirect is just fine.

I use gypsum in the final rinse.
