Dehydrator with sclerotia

Using a food dehydrator for the first time and also drying sclerotia. Any idea on how long they should be left in to dry? The instruction manual said 2-6 hours for mushrooms, but that is standard sliced mushrooms. Not sure how it changes with sclerotia? Temp is 165 constant.
Any help/suggestions for length is appreciated!

I would weigh them wet before drying. Then you can do some math and weigh them dried and know they are "fully" dehydrated.

PS I also started making multiple batches of tea with fresh sclerotia and freezing what I want to save for later - it's a time investment up front but awesome when you want to trip!

You will want to break them up or they will become rocks. For the same reasons you mentioned non of us can tell you a perfect time because stones come in many sizes. Just try 6 hours, check, 2 more, check. You should be able to tell when they no longer lose weight (aka they are dry).

Oh yeah that's a good point about cutting them up.

depends on how big and dense the fruits are, but let me just say.... I don't think you really want to dry those things. They become hard as rock and nearly impossible to grind up afterwards. I broke my coffee grinder (bent blade and a projectile broke through the plastic lid) trying to get 6 dry grams of small stones to powder. Boiling the stones whole for 20 minutes didn't even get them halfway hydrated... Just eat them fresh, or make a tea and freeze it imo

Thanks. I did break them up quite a bit. I have about 500 grams wet, so not quite sure what to be expecting in terms of dry weight, but will keep checking. On a bit of a side note, is tea the recommended way to consume? I do tea normally, but thought that sclerotia were best eaten dry?
Either way, just don't want to risk "over drying" the sclerotia (if that's even possible).

Thanks for the comments. I ended up using the re-weigh approach. The weight seemed to stabilize at about 1/3 of their wet weight, which seems consistent with other things I have read. Thanks for the help!
Also, I ended up with about 112 grams wet per pint jar, so about 36 grams dry per jar. How does this measure up in terms of average yield in other people's experience?

thats pretty good for a pint jar
from a quart jar stonesun's average
10 jars mexicana A at 1348g total gives us 134.8 grams average per jar.
7 jars galindoi ATL7 852g total gives us 121.7 grams average per jar.

I think weighing them before drying to determine when they're dry, is pointless. They wont all have the exact same water content. Just dehydrate them for 24 hours, they'll be fine.
Cutting them into small pieces is good. Most don't dry stones because of how hard they get, but you can break them up with a hard flat surface. Or just make some tea, which is probably what I'd do with dry stones. Remember stones are less potent than cubes when dry

less potent to weight because of the dry material

That's a good yield but why are you drying them? Stones are best fresh. Put em in a paper bag and keep them in the fridge. They will last a long time that way. I usually leave em in the jars until I am ready to trip then harvest a jar or two. Leftovers go in the fridge. They can sit in the jars for 6-9 months before harvest easily.

if you store them in the fridge they'll have some mycelium growing on them but other than that they are fine and last long 2-3 month easily

I'm not sure what you're saying.
more dry material in the stones that means u munch on more dry stuff to get the same effect as u would get from shrooms
shrooms dry to an approximate 10% stones dry to 30%

Yeah stones are about 2/3 potency of cubes when dry. At least that's what many people have told me, I've never eaten dry stones.
