Removing mushrooms from a growkit without contaminating...
    #2189783 - 12/19/03 09:46 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

the rest of the 'shrooms.
About 7 weeks ago, I ordered a grow kit from Mushmush. I've been growing the mushrooms for the past 4-5 weeks and I'm nearly finished. The problem I'm facing is that the first mushroom that started it's magical growth spurt is taking up a massive amount of space in the jar, and is already growing in zigzags to prevent dead ends. I was wondering what would the possibilities, if any, of removing the larger ones before the space has run out to let the smaller ones grow, without contaminating the rest of them?
I thought up of removing them with rubber gloves, but I'm not too sure is that necessary or to extend the growth area vertically by 10-20cm. If this was possible to do, what could I use to extend it into a larger jar? possible cardboard with book rapping? So if anyone of you have any ideas which might help me, without contaminating the kit, I'd gladly try them out.

You don't have to worry nearly as much about colonized substrate contaminating. Just reach in there with clean hands and twist that baby out.
