cuttings for grafting

Hi all,
I have some Lophos that I would like to graft on another cactus.
I have received some cuttings of a big cactus (don't know the name, but it resembles a Pachanoi) and now I'd like to plant the new cuttings. (once the cut is healed of course)
My question is: can I cut my cuttings into shorter cuttings, (currently they are about 11") thus creating more cacti?
Would a cutting without the "growing tip" still grow?
Thanks

Of course it will grow buddy. It will pup at one or more of the upper areoles.
Also yes you could cut it to make more but the smallest I would cut would be 6in but that's just me.
I believe I've read on here that a 4in cutting will work well too but I don't know for sure because I've never cut them that small.
Good luck bro

Thanks
I've cut the cuttings into 6" sections and now I should wait for about a week or two until the cut is dried up.
Now, a couple of questions about grafting if I may:
1. If the stock plant loves direct sun, but the scion doesn't, where should I place the grafted cacti?
2. If I can't see a ring at the core of the stock, should I just estimate where the centre is and align that with the scion's core?

Ive got a couple of poor three inch cuttings rooting at the moment. So far three failed, but I have three more. The three that failed just dried up.

if scion is loph, you can put your grafts in full sun. for other species i really don't know, but one can just try different photoperiods and understand what's best.
One thing. you did just cut it into sections, but even if you wait for 2 weeks before cuts dry up, you still need to reroot them before grafting.
to get success in grafts, one must make sure that both scion and stock are actively growing. while i don't say that it is impossible, i guess that is more difficult to graft on a rootless piece of cactus that is already putting effort in rooting.

Of course, I wouldn't start with the grafting until the stock is fully rooted. How long should I wait until it is ok to graft?
btw - how does one tell when the rooting is complete and the planting went well?

Rooting takes time. Leave em for a month in dry soil.

Give it about a month and give the top of it a lil tug and if you feel resistance then your trich has started rooting.

That is how I do it
Always nice when you feel a cutting firmly held in place in the pot. Then if it hasn't already fresh growth starts popping up

If you tug on the cutting and can feel the resistance, it has some roots down there. It would probably be best to wait till you have roots and see new growth of some sort (like pups), until you graft. That way, you know it has enough roots to be happy and satisfied and will support the new scion well.

and i wonder, if would be a good idea to graft on the pups themselves! (after they get reasonable size)
