I don't think so but make sure they're clean. Anyway, you could try any normal trap if you want.

another great method of removing fungus gnats is to use your vacuum cleaner.....just suck all the little bastards to their doom.

The chemical in mothballs is very scary. I'd be cautious, it is possible the fungi can absorbe the vapors.

i have an inch high pixie that i caught at the end of a rainbow, she walks around in my pmp and takes care of any eggs/larvae with a flame thrower.
serious now...i'd guess you have to vacuum every few days to catch any new hatch before they have time to breed.i think the effort needed with this method would be less of a long term problem than that presented with possibly eating shrooms contaminated with the chemicals used in moth balls.

neem powder or husks are now added to some makes of coir ,it is being used in organic mushroom farms to stop fly infestations .as it stops them eating and laying eggs it is also used as an animal drench for ticks and other creapy crawlies this is the total solution as I had trouble for years in horticulture with the fuckers :crazy2:

Some of my cased p.cubensis have also recently become infested with shroom flies... as it was on its 3rd flush I just let it go and put it in the garden, but first harvested the shrooms already present. These seeemed to be normal, except that some of them had v.fluffy/fibrous stalks - could they be consumed without danger?

Thanks!

I have consumed fruits that were infected with fungus gnats and had no ill effects...I think many people have had my outdoor specimens, which were infected. I haven't heard anything negative about them.

I've yet to try this technique but fungal gnats can be controlled biologically by using their natural enemy, the predatory mite Hypoaspis miles.

Quote:

These mites (Hypoaspis miles) will help control thrips populations without the use of pesticides or poisons, and they attack many other pest species as well, including fungus gnats and springtails. They are shipped in all stages of life, packed in vermiculite and peat in liter or half-liter shaker canisters for easy distribution, and come with detailed instructions for release. They have been used with especially good results in the production of Shiitake mushrooms.

well it definately kills the larvae, eggs, and adult flies..and there seems to be no ill effect from the moth balls in the air...now keep in mind i'm not spraying moth balls sitting on top of the casing..just put the whole substrate and casing in a tub..filled with moth balls...36 hours later...ALL dead...then back to normal

I did try the vaccuum deally..but the fuckers reproduce too rapidly...and too much effort

i'll let u know if the moth balls seem to have any effect on the shrooms

Uh, how or where would one go about procuring neem powder or husks? I have never heard of this stuff.
