Update on my sub find -- and another ID needed

Hey guys -- just another update and a couple more questions, I went out to pick them today, and sent them off to dry under a fan, here are some of the ones I picked:

Also a little clustered family which I thought was cool:

There were these black ones that I didn't pick, but they are still there, would they be ok to dry and eat?

And here's the other cool looking ID for you guys, found on a log next to the subs.

Those are some chunky subs. The ones that aren't black yet in the cluster of rotting ones should still be fine to pick. They just look a bit dry. Most of them are probably fine. Nice finds

Thanks a lot! Just curious, how do you determine whether one is dry or rotting because they go black either way?

Either way they'll start rotting eventually. Just check if they look ok to you and not soggy or rotten theyll be fine. Maybe don't pick the really black ones. It could either be oxidization or rotting.

yeah there were a few there that were fairly black that would literally almost crumble as i touched the cap, so i just left the caps face down, although if they're that old i'd assume the spores had already dropped.
