This Apathetic Voter
    #2189363 - 12/19/03 03:50 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Okay, I'm admitting it... I'm an apathetic voter.

I vote for who - at the time - I feel/think is the lesser of two evils.

But technically, I don't care.
I don't care because none of these fuckers represent me. Hell, I don't even know if they're capable of doing anything other than smiling for a camera and spitting out rhetoric (which becomes increasingly pathetic the closer you get to home FED>State>Local... kind of eerie, eh?).

Right, so none of these stupid bastards truly represents me.
So, stick with what I'm doing or what?
I'm open to suggestions.

Vote Libertarian or spoil your ballot if the Libertarian candidate doesn't appeal to you.

One of the many problems with the concept of electronic voting is it doesn't allow write-in voting or deliberate ballot-spoiling.

Unfortunately, there aren't many libertarians to be seen on the ballots 'round here.

Too many old people... change will be slow... new parties in distant future...

Ah, Florida!

There have been Libertarian candidates on the last several presidential ballots.

There may not always be on every Congressional or Senate ballot, true. This is when it is appropriate to use the "write-in" feature.

Frank Zappa for Congress!

Yeah, well... an intelligent, fledgling pol. party would know that it would be best to start at the local level and move up. Otherwise you're just the "kooky" party that "stole" votes from the big two.

Familiarity is a powerful tool, but it requires patience.

I have been voting outside the two big parties for a while now. I never felt that my vote was wasted. I felt that it was a long term stratagy to show that there is support for thrird partyies and slowly the sheep would comeon over.

I agree with mntlfngrs's strategy 100%.

When I was still living in Canada, I ALWAYS exercised my "decline to vote" option. In some elections in the 70s, the "decline to vote" option coupled with the spoiled ballots approached 5 per cent of total votes cast.

You better believe that politicians pay attention to voting blocks as high as that.

Not only that but it encourages other would be third party candidates to run. Look at all the parties in the last pres. election. I've never seen so many. And the goal is not always to have a third party win but to create movement in the principals of the other two parties. If they see that they are losing more and more votes they will change their principals to keep with the attitudes of the country.

My concept of electronic voting would allow both of these things.

That's what I did when the little guy from TX ran for president. Ross Perot. I knew he wouldn't win, and that basically it was a throw-away vote, but I wanted to send a message to the two major parties that I was not impressed.

I still like to be appraised of the issues and candidates, even if I don't think my vote counts. At least if I vote, I get to bitch later about things. If I don't vote, I don't have the right to bitch.

God dammit man!

Stand up and fight!  Don't let this fucked system turn you away from a 'bitch vote'!

Political responsiblity only begins with voting.  Which is admittedly a very small part of what one person can do to change things!

You have political ties!  Use them!

And don't give up until you are satisfied, hopefully never.

If I ever become apathetic I hope someone shoots me.  I refuse to let others make decisions for me without being heard.  Goddamn rotten sons a bitches anyways.

:mad2:

At least you actually DO vote! Nowadays, a good "voter turnout" is considered less than 40% of elgible voters. I find that sad, especially when said non-voters bitch and moan about the leaders they end up with.
