Smallest possible San Pedro cuttings?

I now have 2 San Pedro plants of nearly equal length totaling 26 inches. Despite growing rather attached to them, I would still very much like to use them within the next couple of days, hopefully 15-18 inches.
I have read many times that you should save the tops of San Pedro plants in order to grow clones of them which I would like to do. However, I'm a little uncertain of how much to actually lop off. The most common figure I see is 4 inches. If that is correct, then that right away leaves me with only 18 inches of cacti, not counting what I should leave at the bottom.
But in this thread: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5087405 it says that 4cm (less than 2 inches) cuttings of San Pedro could still be grown. If I only have to cut off 4cm from the tops and leave 4cm at the bottoms, that would give me more than enough to work with.
So can anyone clarify things for me? What's the least amount I can get away with cutting off the top and leaving at the bottom while allowing my original cacti to keep growing and making 2 new ones from cuttings?

As long as there is an areole the cactus will pup. You can even cut a cactus down the core in order to obtain extra columns. Instead of cutting you can add The pupping hormone BAP though for more pup production. I agree with the no less than 6 inch theory , but do what ever makes you happy.

The larger a cutting you start with, the better... If you really want to get the most out of your plants (although this doesn't help you much right this second) you can cut them down and leave a stump about 4-6 inches and cut, root, and plant the tips of about 6in and you will have 4 new plants and two 'usable' cuttings... although that probably isn't the amount you were looking for...

I've taken cuttings from 1yo seedling by removing rotten roots. But smaller the cuttings goes, they may fail with rooting.
Anyway, I don't see there's minimum heigh. I mean if cactus in scale is ok by diameter <-> lenght. For example <1cm diameter and 5-7cm heigh is plausible cutting. For example if roots rotting from base of cactus, you can cut that small size cactus roots off and dry it and then force it to root again without any hormones. Rooting hormones may be bad to small cuttings anyway.
Smaller the cutting, slower the growth will be till plant is big enough.

In my experience, cuttings of about 6-8" and 1-2" diameter root the fastest(2-3 weeks) followed by the larger cuttings of up to 15 inches and 3-4 inch diameter (1-2 months). Then the small pieces (anywhere up to years.) my quickest cutting rooted in 7 days, and second fastest in 11 days. My longest cutting took 16 months.

ive planted 3 inch long ~ .5 in dia cuttings with success. they are quite small and will take a long long time to get to full size.

Most of the smaller cuttings i have tried either dry out or rot. Ive got a few 3 inch pieces still trying. The pachanoi shorties were poorly kept by the ebay seller who wholesales them. That is why so many are rotting. All of my personal smaller cuttings have rooted. It all depends on how they are kept.
