looks like a Gymnopilus to me. (possibly luteus?).

Other identifying traits
How do they smell? .....Should be super sweet and spicy?
How do they taste?  .....The exact opposite of how they smell!!

They smell very fresh comparable to mushrooms at the supermarket, all though sweet and spicy is a good way to describe the smell !

Is it safe to taste a little bit ?

I took a spore print as well !

hmm, yeah maybe you're right. Print look's pretty orange

Also the smell sounds correct. I suppose now they look a bit more like Gymnopilus in the shape of the cap as well... Wait for a TI

Taste is bitter, not like the smell at all.

Theres quite a few still growing, I only picked the biggest one ! I can collect more specimens if needed. Also can take more pictures.

More pics wouldn't hurt. If the print is definitely orange and not brown they are likely to be Gymnopilus sp. If there is enough the best idea would be to make a tea. 150 grams i think is the amount to use. A few people have reported a bit of nausea and need for the toilet after eating them fresh. I've never seen this species so more pics or confirmation from TI would be a good idea before eating them. The yellow colour on the stipe puts me off, I wouldn't be certain they are an active species. I might have seen something like that before but my memory isn't good right now...

It's a Gymnopilus.

Cortinarius sp. do not grow from wood.

Is there anything I can do in order to determine if this is an active Gym ?

I can take more pictures as the pins mature ?

congrats btw, your last strike-through so you'll have to add some things to your bucket list

generally folks look for bluing/greening on a pin or the base, or i've heard tossing them in the fridge can provoke some.

we all like pictures of gyms so definitely post more

happy fourth everyone

I threw the cap in the fridge to possibly provoke some bruising, meanwhile here's a look at the pins !

These were found in Ontario, is this one find enough evidence to add Gymnopilus Luteus to the list of magic mushrooms that grow in Ontario ?
