No colonizing of casing
    #2189220 - 12/19/03 02:00 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

I have a 2 BRF cake casing (cased with vermi) shows no sign of colonization of casing layer. 2 inch subtrate 1 inch case. I just scraped off verm and through in fruiting chamber. Why no colonization and will this be successful?

How long has it been? What conditions did you have it in when incubating the casing?

its was like 2 weeks, I should say "very little colonization". 84-84 while incubating.

I always have the same problem. But i dont use a inch of casing thats a little to much. I use about 1/4 an inch. I just cover the bits of cake until none is showing. I dont know if its the vermiculite or what. But scraping off all the loose verm is fine. Mist it afterwards to and just stick it in your pod. I dont even do casings any more I just do exactly what you described above and I get great results. Check it out...
9 Burma cakes done how I described above...

First flush off 3 Creeper Cakes...

Second flush off the same 3 cakes...

i agree that a 1/4 inch casing layer is pleanty for small amounts of brf cakes.the less nutrients that the mycelium has to use to colonise the casing layer, the more nutes are available for fruits.2 cakes could i suppose use half of the nutrient resource just colonising an inch of casing layer.
