So am I EVIL!?

I found a rabbit eating my zucchini and spinach today in my garden that I've easily put 8+ hours into. I just ran it out as I normally would do. This rabbit however decided to live under the shed that is right next to my garden! Today I saw the rabbit raiding my garden once again!! and so I loaded my 22 caliber pellet gun and I shot it and it stopped moving, immediately I ran out and rung it's neck. Sadly it was very cute and to small to eat so I had to throw him away... the poor thing. So what do you guys think was it justified or bunnycide?

I don't think you're evil. I think what you did was wrong though, it wasn't going for your garden because it wanted to fuck with you, like everything else it just needs to eat to survive. Doesn't really matter to me what you did though, I just don't like killing things unless it's necessary for survival, because if you do for fun I think you're a douche
But you're human and better then all other forms of life so I can see why your hobby is more important then somethings life.

Haha that was quick with replies. Well he was a little smaller than the size of a 32 Oz powerade. And I'm really hoping the scent of a dead rabbit will deter any other attempts to eat my produce.

Should've at least made rabbit stew or something..
If rats were getting into your food you wouldn't hesitate to kill them, dunno why it should be different for a rabbit. I'm just thankful I don't have that problem. The only thing that fucks with my garden is bugs. The stray cats who liked to use my garden as a litter box are gone.

You should have hung the bunny upside down on a tree with a fork up his ass.
Would have showed the other bunnies not to fuck with your garden.

I remember when i was a kid, my dad used to have to set up rat traps in the garage and attic.
Well i was out back and i saw a rat. I took a big rock and dropped it on it. I could hear it squealing and i started to feel bad. It was squealing loud and i just sat there feeling bad.
My dad saw what i did and told me i had to kill it now, to end its suffering.
Its normal to feel bad for hurting/killing animals when you aren't doing it to survive.
Now if you did what you described in the OP and laughed about it or enjoyed it, then you might be evil

You should have skinned him and put the skin out by your plants. I think that would have deterred them. Then again you'd probably find worse animals in your garden if you did. I don't know. That is kind of small so I guess you couldn't eat it.
I guess you should just move on. It's just another life.

So don't kill it then. If it was living under your shed, and it was a tiny baby rabbit I feel like there were more respectable ways to go about removing the rabbit then killing it and throwing it in "the trash" which I really hope you didn't just kill a rabbit and throw it in your neighborhood garbage can.

but seriously
I feel bad about killing anything, even insects.
Its just a sad fact; that in order to have life, there must be death
My dad taught me this, and stressed the importance of only ever killing when you have to in order to survive

It's expected to feel bad about killing it. However, they can do some real damage. I would suggest putting some chicken wire around the garden. Where there is one rabbit, there is probably a hundred more. Just be glad you don't have a groundhog. Just one of them can decimate a garden in a day or two.

Seems to me if you have to question whether it was bad, and were hoping it isn't and wanted approval that it isn't, you feel bad and probably realize you didn't have to or shouldn't of, everyone thinks just killing one animal over not really anything here and there isn't a big deal, but if millions upon millions people have that same mindset, it starts to become a big deal. Hence the extinction rate(not of rabbits specifically) and our pollution problem, because everyone thinks their contribution won't make a difference.
Probably sounding like a hippy so I'll end with that lol.

Only problem I have with it is that you just threw it away, I understand if it was too small to eat (although i still think you should have tried, could have probably gotten a side dish from it at least)
If nothing else you should have taken the fur to a tanners, rabbit fur is fucking fantastic I can only imagine that bunny fur would be even more soft and amazing. could have at least gotten a nice center piece for a coffee table or something out of it.

Probably has to do with people's sensibilities. We kill animals all the time to eat them. Their death at least has some purpose. When you just kill them and toss them aside, it upsets the more delicate people.
I don't really see things that way. We kill "pests" by millions (maybe even billions) every year and no one really seems to care until it's something bigger than a rat and/or doesn't pose a serious threat to people (like killing venomous snakes, no one gives more of a shit about them than rats).

Yeah but we are also more closely related to a rat (mammal) than to insects.
Most farmers don't feel bad about harvesting their crop, but thats killing thousands of living things as well (the plants)

I would have just buried the fucking thing late at night when no one was looking. Op makes me think of the scene in requiem for a dream when they stumble on the gangsters dumping a body in the trash.
Jk about late at night, but i would have buried it, away from the graden, just to keep it in the circle of life and all that shit. Or maybe you could have thrown it in with the recycling bin.

Shoulda' sprayed it with the garden hose, then regrouped and come up with a live trap, gone back out and set up the trap, caught the rabbit so it could be relocated, then taken it for a drive a few miles down the road, released it, so it could die slowly and painfully of starvation or predation in a spot without gardens to pilfer from. Or on second thought, you could just shoot it dead. Which is what you did. There's no easy answers. Look on the bright side, you contributed to the circle of life by making one lucky scavenger carnivore's meal for the day a piece of cake. Where did you fling the dead rabbit's limp, lifeless body anyways? In the bushes? If I was talking instead of typing I would be so out of breath right now.

Killing a rabbit won't make you evil, and questioning whether it was immediately shows you have a decent side and at least care.
Killing animals is a necessary part of life, it's killing them without a purpose that is wrong. A lion isn't evil for killing a gazelle for food.
If you took.the bunny and tortured it on th e other hand, yeah that's evil.

Sounds tasty

Not evil, but kinda thoughtless.
Your spinach and zucchini are obviously not that important to you if you don't have them protected with some kind of fence or barrier. That's your bad, not the rabbits.
Be a responsible gardener, protect your shit. You're not gonna be able to kill (nor should you) everything that passes through "your" little patch.

So it wasn't "totally" fenced in.
Bury the bottom of the chicken wire about 6 inches in the ground.
Line with stones/logs....

If he's using fencing with holes big enough for a rabbit to get through, he failed before he started.

Farmers depend on their crop for survival, there is an inherent difference. They make a living selling those crops, they need that money for survival, and apart from that many people rely on those farmers to supply all the food we need to survive.
OP's was a garden and most likely a hobby, he doesn't survive off it, profit from it, nor is it his only means for food. I mean I don't really care what he did honestly, but there is a difference, and either way he still isn't evil for doing it, just unnecessary killing

the rule of thumb to remember is that if you have to ask the answer is yes
ok, now for a real life answer no one want to hear
it was either the bunny or you, nature is a bad mother fucker, nature will starve you out, it will burn your house and drown your children, nature will electrocute you and chew your fucking arms and legs off leaving you helpless and and her complete mercy while you die a slow, lingering, excruciatingly painful death.
yeah, the bunny is nature, not all of nature's wrath, just a lone scout/saboteur, someone sent to get the lay of the land, to learn your weaknesses and destroy your food supply in hopes that the war can be ended with very little bloodshed. nature is slick like that, send in the cute little fuzzies in the hopes you dont see the danger and will simply allow it to continue it's destruction. countless hippies fall victim to the cute, twitchy bunny nose and the long flopity ears and the last thing they see is the fluffy little cotton tail as it hops off into the forest knowing that it's going to be an easy victory
life on this planet is a series of gruesome battle and the first rule to learn is that you need to kill nature before it kills you
think fast, what do you do when you encounter this enemy

the correct answer is you club it, that's why we developed Whack-A-Mole, this wasnt a simple game for children, it was a training tool to prepare you for the real world, to teach you to kill on sight and to hone your reflexes so you could strike fast and strike accurately, so that you could bludgeon the little commie bastards to death without feeling a twinge of remorse for splattering his little brain all over your deck. You did the right thing soldier but your battle has just begun, now hide the body and hunker down, you're in it for the long haul

That would be all well and good when humans didn't have control over the whole planet and we're nomad/scavengers themselves.
Now we need to think about how our actions can impact society as a whole since if the system isn't balanced out, it will end in chaos and destruction. Matter of time before we disrupt the cycle and it can no longer sustain itself. In which case the planet and life will survive, but humans probably not.
Millions, even billions of people who think their contribution doesn't contribute. Makes a large difference. It's like thow ing trash out your window while driving, "it's not like it makes a difference" we'll when you and 10 million people think that way, it makes a large difference.
We don't know how far the ripples of our actions travel throughout time, and nature and animals are something we need to live along side of, instead of against. Especially if we want to continue as a species down the line.

As long as it's been a learning experience.
I've unnecessarily killed a lot of animals in my time. But the reflections that followed, brought empathy.
I suppose we grow from any and all kinds of little happenings, forgive me for ever sounding too harsh. I'm a hypocrite.

if the rabbit was to tiny to eat, then its to tiny to worry about it eating your plants, he's mearly tending to your crops for you
people eat birds, a rabbit even a baby rabbit is bigger than alot of game birds

thats because they realize the house is yours, they leave the hummingbird on your driveway as a show of respect for letting them roam around your yard unchecked.
So again, you people are wasting perfectly good animals, it was your duty to get that hummingbird and cook it up

Yeah because house cats have the ability to comprehend that their actions impact more then just them. Not even worth speculating since it takes 2 seconds of thought to realize why its a shitty anecdote.
Edit: my bad, I've been in a bad mood for other reasons and ive been being a dick all day because of it, realized after I hit send it's misdirected anger.
