Probable Amanita flavoconia (

Habitat: In woods, on ground in New York. Cap is bright orange with loose yellow patches of veil; stalk is yellow, solid, with a basal bulb.
Gills: Whitish-yellow (see photos).

Can someone confirm? Also, is this an Amanita which is active? My field guide says this is one of the most common amanitas but that it's edibility has not been established, therefore consumption cannot be recommended.

Thanks. This forum function differently than all the rest? If so, it is weird! How come my images say "this image has been deleted" when one clicks to get the full resolution image?

You're welcome. MH&I doesn't function any differently as far as I know and I think the upload just got messed up, trying to re-upload might solve the issue. Happens from time to time.
Big fan of your contributions to this site btw .

Thanks for the kind words (blushing). Your advice was correct on every count. I re-uploaded the pix and that solved the issue. Never had that happen before!
