Early pinning during colonization!! HELP

So someone spawned some chitwan a week ago and covered it tight in sterilite and a garbage bag opened it to find something odd.
The surface at first glance was white and fuzzy, but when looking closer someone saw that numerous pins had formed but then covered themselves with a white fuzzy material that looked unlike mycelium.
Someone might ask a. wtf? and b. does someone case over the top of this or c. surgically remove all the pins first ( c2. and eat them??)
facts: substrate was only 2 1/2 inches thick and was hpoo/verm/coir/tsp cal hyd. spawned from very healthy rye.
Thanks in advance for not dogging me too hard on whatever I did wrong...

I believe you should be fine letting those mushrooms develop and eating them. (double check though, mold is no joke health wise)
But after that, that substrate is likely garbage.
Maybe wait for a 2nd opinion though

I've had some pin early, without contams, but that was before I discovered that my totes were allowing too much FAE...

Did you cover the lid of the tub with tape. There may be too much GE escaping through the cracks in the lid. I usually tape the lid on to be sure there isn't excess GE.

ah yes thank you, I forgot to mention this.
FAE is the main pinning trigger.
(and yeah, posting that your dog, or SWIM is growing mushrooms doesn't help you legally whatsoever. Don't bother )

Who knows the actual science behind this? Is it an attempt for the colony to reproduce before succumbing to the contamination?

ugh...
My first post shows true newbyism...
they were rye kernels that were at the top layer...I feel idiotic having posted that in a panic. Live and learn...
thanks for the concern and replies...
moving on...
