Using synthetic filter discs as lids.

I used to post here quite a lot a few years ago, and then I just kind of drifted away from cultivation for a while to engage in other pursuits. Now I'm getting back into it.
A friend of mine who used to work for MushBox gave me a carful of supplies about five years ago, and I never really went through it. Anyway, I recently got back into mycology, and so I finally went through all the stuff he gave me, and I came across several thousand 110mm 0.3 micron synthetic filter discs.
I never really used them before, but now that I've discovered all these neat growing supplies, I want to use them and experiment with them.
- What are the things I would need to take into consideration using these as jar lids for 1/2 pint or quart jars with the excess trimmed down?
- Will these provide adequate GE?
- Can I inoculate through them, sealing the holes with silicone after?
- Would I still need to add a vermiculite barrier?
- Is there anything else I should be aware of?
I used to have a supporter account way back in the day, but I can't remember what it was lol. Looking forward to re-establishing ties with the community and I will greatly appreciate anyone taking the time to help me out here. Thanks guys. Much love <3

Welcome back!!! man you hit the jackpot with a carload of myco gear, SFD's are ideal for GE but you still want to use a metal lid as well with a hole punched thru it or it may be too much GE and border FAE. I would recommend tracing quarter's onto them then cutting them out and silicone each quarter sized piece onto a metal or plastic lid over a small hole maybe 3/16 or so personally I use a framing nail, that way you can do several jars with one SFD or you can place the metal lid with hole in it down first with the SFD over it and secured with the ring to hold everything in place but since you have regular sized jars with wide mouth SFD's i'd recommend cutting the quarter sized circles and gluing them in place since you will have to trim them anyways but that's up to you it will work either way. don't inoculate thru them either, just lift the lid enough to sneak your syringe in and noc em up preferably in a SAB or in front of flow hood and there's no need for the dry verm barrier when using lids with SFD's the dry verm normally acts like your filter in pf-tek but a SFD will do a much better job here's a picture of my lids for reference instead of a SFD I used ez-felt but its the same concept.....

Cool, thanks. Sounds easy enough. I'll probably just slap a quarter in the middle of the filter and Mod Podge around it to reduce the air exchange.
My idea of inoculating was to remove the metal ring and inoculate in the area that's covered by the metal ring. This is how I've done it when I was cultivating before, just with metal lids.
I also ended up with a couple hundred spawn bags with filter patches in two different sizes, so I've got enough to keep me busy for a while while I slowly catch up on what's changed since I've been gone.
Thanks for the welcome!
