How often do you clean out your terrariums?

Lets say the circumstances are that you have been using your terrarium/fruiting chamber/PMP for a project and everything has been hunky-dorey. No contams and nothing but success and beautiful fruits to show for it. Would you: *Clean the terrarium out completely before a new project? *Give it a good spray down with peroxide/water (light cleaning of walls, maybe) *If it ain't broke.... (keep on truckin') Perlite users may clean more frequently than say a PMP user would, I'd assume. Thanks for the opinions. edit:spelling

I use the same setup as pmp but with perlite instead of geolite, I actually cleaned my terranium today after about 2 months service. I always have the thing occupied so it's kinda hard to get a chance to clean it out since I have casings going all the time and a few cakes to fill the holes. The perlite was really purple and so were the walls =\ I never had a problem with contams leaving it go for a couple months.

Cool beans. I feel you on having a constant rotation of projects going and my bud is in the same boat. Purple walls sound bad ass! Spores galore!

My friend usualy cleans his out whenever his chamber is empty, he uses perlite and constantly has new jars being ready for birthing, the chamber always seems to be having cakes coming and going, but whenever it is empty he always gives it a good clean.

To touch on the topic in this thread, how often does anybody clean/replace their perlite in their setup? I have had mine going non-stop for the last 2 months and the original perlite still seems to be generating enough humidity...
So I guess a more accurate question is that does perlite lose it's ability to wick up water an create humidity over time?... I know it's real cheap and easy to replace, but i'm just curious.
thanks in advance.

It's basically a matter of convenience vs. necessity.
Obviously, if you have continual contam problems, you must eliminate the source and start over with clean everything.
If things are working OK, just keep truckin' until you have a chance to tidy up. My perlite usually goes for 3 months and then, even though it's still performing, I change it when the opportunity arises. I don't know if it loses it's quality over time, but eventually you will want to clean it out just as a matter of good hygiene, I think.
I have had only one small outbreak of green on the actual perlite, and I was able to scoop out the offenders and continue successfully for at least another month.

I can't get perlite where I live so I had to order it on the internet and I just reuse it over and over, whenever I clean the terranium I take all the perlite dump it into a strainer and wash it with bleach water and let it dry out, and put the perlite I took out and cleaned the last time in the chamber. I have just enough to have it in the chamber and the other batch drying and have been cycling the two batches for a long time and never got the funk on the perlite itself. I guess I should get some geolite

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Doesn't look like my bud will have any down time soon, so onward he goes.
I have an opened bag of perlite... opted for the lava rocks. Any hardware store should have em and they seem like it is less messy than perlite. Just rinse before putting into your pods.
