Will I call in or will I go?

Hey yall, Got a music festival I'm hitting tomorrow morning. I only live half an hour away so that's really convenient. I am scheduled for a 3 hour shift at my job though, and I can't decide if I'm going to call in or leave the fest to work and then come back.
The only problem with calling in is it looks suspicious on the Friday before the 4th. I also missed work last Monday for jury duty. So I'm leaning towards just nutting up and going to work, but part of me still feels like I should just simplify it and call.

maybe get someone to do you a favor and cover it. both options suck of leaving the venue and taking a break (unless that sounds nice) or ditching work and possibly get in trouble at work.

Call in saying you're sick or w/e the day before, and you'll bring a doctor's note. I don't know how it works down there but you can pay for a doctor's note and it'll cost you a few bucks. No trouble if you've got a note.

If you hadn't recently called in I would have said go for it. Since you just called in the other day I'd say just go do your shift and then come back to the festival.

I'd just go to work but I'm the type that will go to work doubled over in pain from kidney stones and be like "I'M FINE, STOP ASKING"
I'd rather go to a fest later than at the very beginning so I'd probably skip the beginning, go to work then to the fest... just what I would do

If it was any other day it would be up for debate, but on that day they KNOW you are partying and that when you say you dont they know they cant trust you. Dont let your collegues at whatever job you have be understaffed on a holiday. Its 3 hours. You can't even watch a serious movie in that time.
Plus the way the human mind works, after hardship thrice the joy. You are going to party three times as hard after you put the hours in.

I would go to the festival. You only live once. How might you feel in the future if you miss the opportunity?
That being said, unlike what some other posters have said, you do owe your boss something. You owe your boss reliability as they have risked their success on you. If I were an employer I would fire you. You are costing someone else money and lying at the same time. Just be honest with your boss and call as early as possible to let them know you aren't showing up. Be honest about where you are going. If you get fired than you will have deserved it. Move on, find another job.
Or you could just go to work.

^ Exactly. And also won't be hung up on those 3 hours of work, blowing his buzz and thinking or worrying about it.
Work first then play. Don't leave your people hanging, OP. They want out as much as you do.

3 hour shift? Sounds like a bullshit min wage job I could be wrong though (not bashing if it is). If it is and you don't give a fuck about your job fuck em call in sick. Otherwise i'd go to work.

No I work at a bank doing billing processing at night. It takes about 3 hours every night.
It was definitely my fault for speeding, but it's just a buzzkill. I guess I'm lucky I can ignore it for the rest of the weekend and still have fun. We have an excellent crew camped out this year. 20 or so friends with a massive fire = can't go wrong

Doctors note? What, is this high school? Are there really jobs that make employees get doctors notes?

Ive seen it go both ways. More corporate/retail type jobs want doctors notes
Smaller family businesses tend to be more lenient

The fact that you think mental associations have to be related to the topic via functional logic is absurd. Mental images and associations come more often from emotion than from logic.
