Agar substitute progress

It has been about a week since I inoculated my brf paste jars, following doc34's tek, from leftover MS syringes. I know I should just do agar plates already, but I'm super broke right now and can't get all the necessary materials, but I had plenty of brf and figured I'd give this tek a try in the meantime. The growth has been getting faster since I moved the jars from room temperature(74 degrees), to a warmer location in my attic where it is about 79-82 degrees.
The mycelium seems to be a little bit too fuzzy, but still looks relatively healthy. Will the mycelium be able to reach the bottom of the jar, given the thickness of the brf paste? And how big of a section do you think I should cut out to transfer to rye jars once it reaches 100%? I've heard some people like to use the whole thing and others just a miniature piece.

Eventually but you don't need to wait for that to happen. Just let it colonize the top surface until there's enough to cut out sections the size you want. I usually use fingernail sized pieces. You can go larger though to speed up colonization or smaller to save on "agar".

I think I used around three teaspoons and I added 16 cc of water to make the brf mix.

No problem, here's a link: http://www.shroomery.org/8514/Agar-substitute
I modified the jar lids a bit to provide more GE (I used 5 small holes instead of one) and only used tyvek(kite-making material) under the lid, then tightened the band. Seems to be working well for me so far.

Oh okay, make sure the mix isn't too thick, it'll harden up a lot in the PC. I also used the recipe with half the ingredients to get faster colonization.

I do this to. I use the containers that pasty recommends for his plates . Had mixed success at getting the spores to germinate. I also just use grains in them with better success. Then just tiger drop it in.
