Didn't find anything, so don't get your hopes up.
Just going to share some pictures, and maybe solicit advice .
So it rained last night here in Chico, CA and it was about 70degrees for the first time in a while. I figured maybe if I went up into the hills I could find something.
I was told to look out for Gymnopilus luteofolius, panaeolopsis sp, psilocype cyanescens, and panaeolus cinctulus.
I think it's just too dry around here... it was 100 the other day. I went down to the river area as shown in the pic.

heres a cool little fuzzy caterpillar i found down by the river:

Where do you all think I should go to find something magical? Somewhere around Chico, CA. Or should I just wait until the fall?

Looks like you got a nice place to hunt. You should read up on the species you're after, and search in the right habitats in the right season. However: apart from Panaeolus cinctulus, which you should be able to find now on horse manure/stable shavings, I haven't got any experience since none of the others are found in my area.
...and welcome to the Shroomery!

Oh cool! I'll read up on that type, there are plenty of horses and cows around here.
Just hope I don't piss off any farmers lol!
Thanks!
edit: here is the page for that shroom in case anyone reading this is wondering: http://www.shroomery.org/12484/Panaeolus-cinctulus

Best thing you can do if you're going to hunt on private property is to go to the proprietor and ask for permission to look for mushrooms. Say you are studying them out of a biological interest. That poop loving fungi is your area. The worst you can get is a 'no'. If you choose to trespass, I don't know.

you should check out some of the bay area fall actives threads to get familiar with the habitats. Its probably your best reference even though chico is drier and hotter. You should have some luck looking in woodchips in Bidwell park and around Chico State. You may want to plan a trip over to the coast this fall. Trinidad, Arcada area to actually find some Cyans. Just Keep Looking and learning the Right Habitats for what your after. Good Luck.
