In Québec, today is National Moving Day.
St. Jean Baptiste was a week ago.
Have Québecois heritage, but even while living in Québec personally never ate poutine. My coworkers used to consider Poutine and a Pepsi to be the ideal breakfast though.

My favourite beer is Heineken, not even Canadian. Also also Molson Canadian is barely a Canadian beer, the label is red white and blue.

There's Molson and Labatt everywhere but that shit isn't any better than Budweiser. Unibroue is the only Canadian brewery I've had the chance to sample that puts out the kind of beer I like.
Unibroue makes one of my favorite wheat ales. Look into 'Great Lakes Brewery' if you're interested in Canadian craft beer, they've won many, many awards.

One of my ancestors was a rebel in the early Québec uprisings. He was shot in the back trying to escape from a church when the English busted up the resistance. As a result, the church excommunicated my family for "fighting on church grounds" and a large portion of us moved West. At least, this is how my father passed the story down to me.
Personally grew up in a prairie community where English was the only spoken language, and people harassed me for having a French last name. Moved off to Québec after high school to try and learn more about my family history. Only ever managed a rudimentary grasp on the language in my years there. Have not had poutine due only to my disdain for gravy. Do not put it on anything.
Am the example of what happens when Canadian values disrupt a Québécois heritage. Don't let it happen to future generations.

Personally put roast beef on a bun and have it as a sandwich with ketchup and mustard.
The gravy part was a bit of a joke though; do not think that gravy is uneaten outside of Québec. Just personally never liked it from a young age.
Fries and gravy were probably the most ordered item in my high school cafeteria.

There's an Irish Pub near me.. I forget what the name is.. Some stereotypical irish pub name "O'Patrick's Irish Pub" Or some shit.
And they have a guinness gravy, made from you know, guinness draught, and it's so fucking good I would drink it with a straw.
Anyways, they don't have cheese curds or poutine on the menu but they do have gravy fries, I definitely bring cheese curds sometimes though. Being an Irishman from Minnesota though, makes me love them mother fuckers. There gravy is basically like crack.
I miss real poutine. Shit was great. I went to UMD for a while (University of Minnesota Duluth) Until I dropped out because fuck student debts, and whenever my friends and I got extremely high we'd always think it was a good idea to border hop for some poutine. I've taken weed back and forth over the canadian border on accident so many fucking times. Like we'd be in canada and find out that we totally forgot to take weed out of our pockets, or there's still pipes and shit in the car..
Luckily though I played hockey for the umd bulldogs so I was basically canadian at that point, and the border had already seen me often as fuck crossing for hockey camps, and hockey related shit, so when they saw me and a car full of dudes coming across they assumed hockey related shit instead of pot and poutine extravaganza's.
Good times.
Canada rocks.
Is thunder bay the detroit of canada or does it just smell like it?

If anyone is into Canadian history, decided to punch him into google and see what came up for pages.
The wikipedia says that the English mutilated his corpse, was not familiar with that.
Quote:
After pillaging of the village, the British mutilated Chénier's corpse to scare and humiliate his Patriote supporters:
"Chénier was found about six o'clock and taken to Addison's Inn where his body suffered indignities which those present called an autopsy. During the three days the body was left exposed, a witness swore he had seen it stretched out on the tavern bar: "The chest was opened and the heart hung outside it. To a passing Patriote they cried: 'Come see your Chénier's rotten heart!' ...I noticed that rifle blows had left his head covered with clots of blood." A correspondent for Le Canadien, also an eyewitness, wrote in his diary: "We were in Saint-Eustache last Sunday. The dead had been left lying about. Chénier was on the counter, so badly mutilated that he was almost cut into four pieces, his heart on the outside. A sickening spectacle to witness." "

Your post made me curious about this.
Your estimation appears to be fairly accurate, though it varies from province to province based on provincial liquor sales laws.
