Mycilium identification.
    #21881553 - 07/01/15 03:51 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I need an opinion on if this is mycilium or a mold, I'm a beginner and I'm using the PF tek and a sweet glove box. Appreciate the help.
The jars were inoculated 3 days apart, and if your wondering what the space above the dry verm is, its a plastic insert the acts as a gas exchange room(had to work with what I had, the myc in two jars look fuzzy a bit and in another jar looks more "bulky"

Yep definitely myc. The different mycelial structures are known as either tomentose or rhizomorphic. The former has a 'fuzzy' appearance and the latter, the 'bulky' one, is known to be the stronger of the two. :smile:

Its funny that youd say that because one was inoculated with a different syringe then the other two but both were made from the same spore print, does that matter?

Anything made with a spore print will have tons of genetic variation. Even if they came from the same print.

I've had some cakes start pinning immediately - and some that took a couple weeks. They all look healthy though, so just keep up the good work! The fact that you are getting pins on top and bottom means your SGFC is built correctly and is doing well.

when that thin skin tears away and exposes the gills, that is the veil breaking.  you can see the remnants of the veil below the cap hanging on the stipe (stem).  Almost all of those can/should be picked.

Thanks! I picked most of them, put them on some paper towels on a plate and placed a fan on low setting on them, now as for further drying... I searched the forum and couldn't find a solid "natural" technique (I currently can't obtain a dehumidifier/desiccant).
can somebody make scene of the chaos?

Fan drying will work, it just takes forever I believe. It also will most likely leave a little water.

Could someone say if this is mold or mycelium? My bet is with the first one, but it's growing pretty slow. It's my first kit and these pics are after 7 days;
