I made a thread about this a while ago, but since there?s no search function, I can?t pull it up.

Just get the brands that you?ve heard of I guess. You get what you pay for.

I've had problems with the cheap ones.

After a while, they stop playing in my car.

Ive noticed cds will corrode over time. Ive got some old psx burns getting the spots on them. Doesnt seem to matter the brand. Some of my verbatims are doing it as well as the generic ones. Verbatim blues where suposed to be the nicest cdrs back then too.

Well if you talk to many of the etree people, many of which are very anal retentive about their music collection, most will tell you that Japanese made Fujis are the very best. But not the Fujis made in Taiwan or anywhere else. It says on the disc where they're made. Many etree people also talk highly of TDKs. Many shun Memorex, I'm not quite sure why.

What's the difference between the black ones and other Memorex CD-R's.

Well Ripple I'm no expert really. I just know that the majority's opinion is that Japanese made Fugis are the best and that TDK are pretty good too. It seems to be the general concensus that Memorex are all cheap and not good if you want your CDR collection to last. I don't know what people are basing this information on though.

Memorex is one of the worst brands for cdr's, data goes corrupt often, slight scratches render discs unusable. They often do not burn at their specified speeds, and I've even gotten a spindle of 700mb discs that would only allow 650 megs to be burned.

So far the best brands I've used are HP (I hate them for everything else), Mitsumi, Cursor, Sony, and Verbatim. I don't mess with those cheap ass blank label discs, at all. When I burn something, I don't want to have to burn it again.

My 2cents.

I work at a store the sells many brands of cdrs. I will tell you many of witch are made in the exact same place in taiwan. Some disks like Khypermedia, Imation, e3works, and i believe even memorex(dont usually get them), are identical except for the name brand printed on the top layer.

I prefer a disk with a thicker top layer. The ones you can see right thru tend to be able to get there top layer scratched off easier.

I hear a lot about Memorex and Verbatim not being good, but I've had no problems with them. Time will tell how they hold up over time (most were burned only a couple months ago), but so far, so good. I'll probably switch to Fuji or Memorex blacks, though, just due to consensus.
