i have an interest in zoology. However, my main love is entomology. I love observing insects and examining their behavior. I truly believe that we need to respect these beings the way you respect someone who takes care of you. Oh that's right, they do! We owe everything to them. They were the first step that lead to the development of the vertebrate.
I am always in search of new and unique insects. But, as a rule, I don't usually by them. I enjoy the hunt. Does anyone have interest in joining me? I'm in search of beautiful beetles, mantids, scorpions (even though their arachnids), centipedes, caterpillars, and any other beautiful arthropod.
Tell me about your interests in science, zoology, scientific philosophy, etc. I'd love your input.

When I decided to go back to college, I considered studying arachnology. I kept a few different species of tarantula's for awhile, love insects as well. When I go hunting for ovoids, I'm always on the lookout for insects, spiders, and especially millipedes.
Look at this beauty I found outside my house:

I go hiking in Malibu. When the spring time rolls around, I venture out onto the forest mountain trails at night. There are these beautiful black millipedes. The produce a hell of a stink. In the dryer months, there are centipedes. I have scorpions and a tarantula so I love arachnology too. That's a beautiful spider. Ever seen Japanese fighting spiders? They look similar.

Is that an orb weaver? We have tons of those gross fuckers in Ontario.
I'm arachnophobic as all hell.

I'm sick and tired of people bringing up that lie. It's not funny.

Yes, this is a female Argiope aurantia, a species of orb-weavers. I actually also used to be a huge arachnophobe, until I was introduced to keeping tarantulas. I'll admit, I still scream when a spider shows up unexpectedly, but there really isn't any good reason to be afraid of most spiders in the US.
I love millipedes. We don't have too many very big ones where I'm at, but we have cherry-footed millipedes that produce a lovely cherry scent. I am ridiculously afraid of centipedes though. That's what made me decide arachnology wasn't going to work for me. My biggest fear? Those creepy as fuck house centipedes.
Looked up Japanese fighting spiders, and they do look very similar!

Dude, I feel ya on the centipedes. Those house dwellers are so twisted. But the typical looking ones, despite the fear factor, are super interesting. Ever watch them eat mice? Oh god it freaks me out. Still really cool, though.
To any arachnophobe, pick up a gentle tarantula at the pet store. Let it slowly walk on your hand and you'll realize the fear is overrated. It feels like nothing at all. Like holding a sleeping mouse...with fangs...and eight legs....and spiky hairs. Ok, it's not the same thing but my point is that the experience washes away all fear. Remember when you first took drugs and didn't know what to expect? Treat it like that. Unknown but still worth investigating.

Arachnophobes should read this and realize they're a lot scarier than a small spider.

I can agree with the myth thing to a certain extent till it gets to spider bites I've had enough in my life to Identify a spider bite that happened while asleep. Fang marks are the tell tale and usually the affected area swells like a giant mosquito bite around the size of a Quarter and itches alot.

Don't worry. As a man of french Canadian descent, its my obligation to stand up for you. However, stereotypes exist for a reason. Did you notice that under your name you wrote "Maple Syrup"? Its ok that you did. I'd be concerned if you didn't as maple syrup is the semen of the gods. And just like semen, you want it on your pancakes but not all over your face...... That was weird. My apologies.
