2 cups verm, 1 cup brf, 1 cup water. more water than that its going to start being too wet.

I think it's a ridiculously simple mixture. Unfortunately people still have problems with hydration. Why? Because they don't mix it well enough. It needs to be very well mixed. Extremely well. Be thorough.

Did it feel like starchy paste? If so it's probably crap and should probably be tossed. BRF sub should feel fluffy and sort of crumbly. Paste doesn't necessarily mean too wet, it means too wet and/or improper order of ingredients.
Couple things:
1. It's not said often enough that you need to hydrate your vermiculite before adding flour, otherwise you end up with goo. Mushrooms like fluffy, not goo.
2. While it's said that 2:1 verm to water is what you want, my vermiculite hits field capacity with less water than it's supposed to. Be sure to test your vermiculite as you hydrate it. You don't want it sopping. If you don't know what field capacity is, look it up.
3. You don't need enough moisture for fruiting, just for colonization. The dunk will rehydrate the colonized substrate before you fruit it. Point being, better a bit on the dry side and texturaly right than too wet and texturaly screwed.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

just a note, we dont do pf-cakes at field capacity. that's way too wet. 2:1:1! rather a little less water than any more water!
