8 days in with WBR, 0 mycelium

8 days ago I inoculated 10 Whole Brown Rice jars, using 5 ml from one syringe, and another 5 ml from a different syringe. I have let them sit in room temperatures (78 degrees on average) and have seen nothing come of it, not even the smallest speck.
My jars are covered in aluminum foil, which while I know doesn't allow good GE, the gas inside them when inoculated should have provided enough for them to start growing. 2 days ago I lifted the foil off of a jar, allowing it to gently rest on top, which provides more than enough room for GE (the holes aren't covered in tyvek or anything, which is why I used tin foil to cover them).
I have had 0 contaminants so far, which is sort of a miracle considering I didn't use a pressure cooker (I did, however, use fractionalization to sterilize the jars, which must have been sufficient).
I had the spores shipped to me on a very hot day, and the syringes were warm to the touch when I got them.
This is my first ever attempt - did I make a mistake somewhere, or were my spores cooked from the moment I got them? I got another batch as well, but have not used them (they were also warm to the touch when I got them)

I've heard tell of spores taking 2 weeks or more to start showing visible growth. I cant confirm this myself, but reading around I think the answer you'll get is "just keep waiting".

A lot of things wrong here.
First, remove the vendors' names. Spores are sold for microscopy purposes, not cultivation. You're hurting the vendors and yourself by placing those names in your post.
Second, 5ml is WAY too much for standard sized jars. you could use 1/10th of that amount.
Third, you really should have some kind of filter, even if it's something simple like a coffee filter held on with a rubber band or tape.

using half a syringe per cake might have fucked your cakes moisture content wise. You would benefit greatly from going through the links in my signature. A lot of good info from spitball jedi and frank horrigan.
I found a 22 quart presto pressure cooker on amazon for 40-50 bucks once. You also see them at value village and secondhand shops pretty often. (just saying because you will need one if you stick with the hobby)

No, not 5 ml per jar, 10 jars and I used 10 ml overall so 1 ml each.

I have whole brown rice and it's still 75-80 on average. Just room temperature.

Ah. To be specific I used Uncle Ben's. I also have a thing of organic rice, but didn't use that at all unfortunately.

My pressure cooker cost 7$ from Goodwill. Spent another 9$ replacing the gasket. It fits 4 wide mouth pint jars or 2 quarts, and its more than enough for my purposes. No need to go all out and get an all american right off the bat. Start small and experiment .

I've had grain jars take 2 weeks to germinate so don't call it a loss just yet but I have to agree with aero on getting yourself a PC it's a complete necessity to do any grain type of grain WBR included. with no PC your pretty much stuck with pf-tek if you don't mind me asking why did you settle on WBR?

I'm confused about any benefit WBR could have can you shake it like grain? I highly doubt it just sounds like a starchy mess.....especially if you tyndalize it like OP sounds like alotta work with no real benefit

No, you don't NEED a pressure cooker for grain. It just helps. You can instead use a fractionalization process which works just as well for sterilization. I used WBR because I don't want to use vermiculite and I had brown rice at my disposal already.

Out of curiosity, why are you avoiding vermiculite? Its just expanded mica. Even with WBR spawn, most bulk substrate recipes use it as part of the recipe, I'm curious of your plans to circumvent that (seriously, I love quirky recipes and off the wall solutions)

Right on bro I understand that fractional sterilization works very well when done correctly and if it works for you that's awesome, I just like being able to process grain in 2 hours versus a few days but like you said use what is at your disposal this hobby doesn't have to break your bank

Vermiculite occurs naturally next to asbestos. Most vermiculite sold currently has approximately 1% asbestos, which is what qualifies as "asbestos free". While it may be useful for growing, I'm such a paranoid person I'd rather not deal with the whole thing. Not to mention the smallest amount near me is like a massive bag that I won't need even 1/10th of (unless I really continue this hobby for a while).
Plus rice is more inconspicuous. I'm just a guy buying rice for dinner, nothing suspicious about it

It was certainly tedious, I won't lie. If I had a pressure cooker I would've definitely used it, but I couldn't find one anywhere around me at the time. I'll have to see if anything starts to grow in a week, then I'll have more concrete results.

well look at you. I didn't even know that about asbestos. I'm going to have to read more about that.
For your paranoia issues, vermiculite has other uses. Its just a soil conditioner. (but I totally get it. The fear will keep you out of jail)

The vermiculite-asbestos thing, as far as I'm aware, was only for vermiculite mined from the Libby, Montana site. The majority of this vermiculite was used in insulation, and yes some of it was contaminated. However, this mine closed in 1990, and as far as I'm aware the more recent sources of the stuff are completely and utterly asbestos free. If I have a chance I may toss some of mine under one of the high power scopes on campus and look for asbestos traces, but I'm comfortable enough with it as is.
That said, I can completely understand trying to be inconspicuous. I only grow edible species, and I've had the cops show up at my apartment twice asking what I'm growing (Though that may have had to do with the 180W LED grow lamp I had in my spare closet that made my room bright pink. Yay chili peppers). I've also had checkout clerks try to tell me they were sure vermiculite was used in bomb making. (I'm in southern arizona, our soil is rock hard caliche and clay, vermiculite helps break it up )
