Sorry for the merry mayhem lately guys, I'll help clear the rubble. Anyhoo I have a position you can vote on and discuss:
Quote:
Try to make peace with the world as much as you can, because it was good and its only getting better.
Read that closely so we don't go astray.
Lets vote. Think about it. Give it a second, light a joint on the occasion, trip on it, meditate, sleep on it, instinctively slam a button.
Its entirely up to you.
Are we headed for greater enlightenment as a society or is a new dark age unfolding. Will technology set us free or turn us into slaves worse than the worst nightmares of the slaves of yesteryear?
YES - We are moving up NO - We are going down STAL - Both/Neither/Can't Call/Won't Say
Its all about fun, do what you want with it and discuss if you like.

If viewed through a wide enough lens, human evolution and progress as a species would look like a stock steadily rising on the stock market. Ups and downs daily and weekly, but overall upward trending over time. We, in our very short lives, may only get the myopic view that things are headed in the direction of the time we inhabit.

The more people there are, the harder it will be to control, which will end with it getting worse. Especially since all it takes to feel separated from people is being born on a different plot of land on this ball we all share.
Humans had great potential, they wasted it and it's too far gone to fix. So just don't be part of the contribution towards it, but it'll still be inevitable.
Its just a matter of time. We spend more money figuring out ways to kill people in order to save people instead of just saving people we could literally just spend it saving people without killing, but that will never happen since lines drawn on a map keep us seperated as a species.
Unless aliens or some force much greater then us forces us to come together as a species, we'll just end up destroying ourselves. We need a greater obstacle to tackle.

It's getting better for sure. Everyday the world learns from the past with us, and uses that knowledge for improvement.

I agree.
the world is getting better.
but sadly, there is still droughts in the heart of Africa and there is still senseless killing all over the world.
But overall, the big picture, the world is progressing.

"good" and "bad" (and better and worse respectively) are merely subjective lables we as individuals have placed on the world. The world we live in simply "is" it's not good it's not bad, it's what it is. I think that's the clearest viewpoint you could possibly take on the matter, even though it is nice to think positively and hope for better.

The world is getting better at the same rate it always has which is very slowly. The world is a hard place to live. People starve to death, are murdered, raped, and end their lives homeless and alone all the time. We are living in an era that future generations will look back at and think "fuck, they were barbaric" much as we look back at the 1800s.
Remember the 1800s was only 116 years ago, yet we look back at them and think about how hard life was then and how barbaric they were. In 116 years, you better bet that people will look back at us the same way.
The problem is that it takes about 100 years for that kind of change to happen. Your entire life will go by without seeing that much change. Your children's lives will go by without them experiencing much change. But over the course of 100 years things do change for the better.
Life is hard, and it's not going to get any easier in your lifetime or in mine, but it will get better. Still any of us might end our lives homeless, alone, starving, or murdered.

That was then and this is now. In 25 years you'd wonder if you are still on the same planet, and maybe you arent.

It seems no one takes into consideration that people won't stop breeding, overpopulation is real and constantly growing, and the more people there are, the faster we will reproduce.
On a planet with limited resources, it will inevitably get worse. Land will run out and people will fight for control of it or what remains, food will be harder to produce for so many people, water will be a problem, even in california just recently they had to ration people because of a drought. It doesn't matter how good the world appears to be on the surface, it's still on a downward spiral that will inevitably end in destruction and chaos, and I only named like two examples. Our explosives will continue to get stronger, and all it would take is one suicidal moron to set one off, and start a chain reaction, the list is endless.
Pollution from more people will destroy ecosystems at an even faster rate, our need for resources will have us rape the land in search of them, not even considering everything else, overpopulation alone is a major factor in why things are getting worse even if they appear better. Maybe it seems better for us at this moment in time, but the planet was much better off without us, and could of been much better with us, but it's too late for that IMO.

Actually, virtually all first world countries are experiencing a problem with population decline, not population growth. Japan is an extreme example of this, but even the US would be in population decline if you exclude immigration and first generation children of immigrants.
