pot smoking dangers?
    #21876008 - 06/29/15 10:59 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Due to the legality of weed there are many misconceptions about it... I'm interested to hear the shroomerys opinions of what you guys think the dangers are, if any,  of say smoking multiple times a day every day? Note I'm talking about mental health,  not physical.

Depends on the individual. I believe the studies show that whilst there's no direct link between cannabis and mental illess, if you're going to suffer from a mental illness, abusing weed can bring it about quicker. But you're going to get the illness regardless. I think this was in relation to schizophrenia.

Having said that, I know people with crippling anxiety who say weed has changed their lives for the better, making them more social, more confident, etc.

Abusing anything is not a good idea.

-It activates specific receptors (cannabanoid (what receptors 2-7? I don't remember)) which are shown to influence your emotions and appetite (not yet known how).
-It is shown to influence a strong dopaminergic release (reward),
+which could be responsible for psychological addiction.
+can be hypothesized to reduce the reward value of other activities based on anecdotal experiences.
-It is shown to inhibit your will to stop eating (when you are high).
-It is shown to detriment attention (short term studies only. If you quit, you recover quickly)

These can be dangerous or beneficial depending on the person using it and in what situations.

Don't ask me to dredge up the sources, I think I read studies about this over the course of the last few years. The studies looked legit though. I've critiqued many.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
When I was at the peak of my intake, I used to smoke about an eighth a day, switched to half a gram of dabs a day, and now am down to 2-3 dabs a day. I literally smoked all day, set no goals and played videogames, or something equally low involvement. I was also very depressed (probably because of my low activity). When I quit, I wanted to do everything all at once and was quite euphoric (mania). I went from just not being interested in social activity to throwing myself headlong in any available.

But in my experience, I've quit cold turkey a few times. Every time, I lose an unhealthy amount of weight, my stress levels are through the roof (I'd bet it influences cortisol levels directly) and I get about 2-4 hours of cold/hot sweaty, broken sleep a night. These symptoms used to last a week or two before I'd normalize. This last time after 9 hours of sleep in four nights (and an ok from the doc regarding a lung issue) I relapsed, but still lowered my intake a LOT.

Keep in mind, I am one case and everyone is different. I had a propensity for depression and social anxiety prior to smoking, but it definitely influences things (and that's probably why I smoke it)

Keep it a weekend thing and you'll be fine. Nightly thing may influence your sleep over time (you'll start needing it).

I still love THC, but I do think these things are not considered in our culture, because of a reeling response to the irrational prejudice towards the drug. It causes us to defend things from an irrational standpoint. Presenting that THC is some sort of miracle drug. There's no such thing.

Sorry for the TL;DR post.

This is basically the jist of it.

Everyone will have their own unique limit as to how much they can consume without suffering ill effect.
Some people suffer quite severe psychological trauma from a single exposure. Others can smoke it pretty much day in day out for decades with no problems. There are many many factors at play. It's not a black and white thing, unfortunately.

Yeah it really depends on the individual, i know for me it works as a great anti-depressant, helps me sleep, and increases my attention span. Not to mention that it makes me feel great physically because of the high.

I believe that some people wouldn't be alive if it was not for smoking pot daily, my father being one of these. And then some other people turn into

waste of life, so like everyone else said, it depends.
