Portable grow room, are they worth it?

I've been lurking here for a little over 2 years, never really needed to sign up, but on a serious note. Has any one purchased one of the shipping containers that's been converted to a grow room. I like my privacy and have a bit of cash and land. Are they worth it? I plan on burying it, worst case scenario I now have my very own bunker/ bat cave.

if you have land, then building a building out yourself would be about half the cost. there are a couple of companies starting up to build such things but I would not trust them. the people I spoke with were going to charge an arm and a leg, and still had never grown anything in one! plus you gotta think about it being dropped off the back of a roll-back truck. but if you need to move it around, then it would be worth it.

Someone recently posted this link recommending a refrigerated trailer. Might be worth checking out.

The issue is I've looked into buying both commercial property and even residential, both of these have higher tax rates and even then the vagrants in my area seem to love "empty buildings" I've been compromised before. I already have much of my mycology supplies at my abode and even growing strictly gourmet and medicinal it seems to still have a stigma of, " you growing magic here?" Its primarily a privacy thing, I could bury it over night and brush it off as a new septic tank to the locals. And roll a junk car over the hatch,

Dude that sounds badass, bury a few old train cars right next to each other for a secret bunker! Depending on where you live, and if you have a trailer you could pick up a few of those yourself. Where would you have the entrance, how would you take care of ventilation etc? I'm pretty sure there are some cryptic laws regarding these sorts of things as well on domestic property.

Burying shipping containers is a bad idea. They are not engineered to support loads on the walls or roof and will crush like a tin can.

If properly installed and supported I would not worry about the integrity of the container. I would be worried about fresh air exchange and excess moisture. OP, you may want to take a look at some of the newer prefab storm shelters that are available these days. They are pretty awesome and built to take a beating. If you are located in tornado country they are easy to find and probably a bit cheaper. It's nice to have that peace of mind, too.

They fucking stack them 5+ high fully loaded, please state your sources, Doomsday preppers bury them all the time, the key issue is at what depth do you both escape the heat and frost, water is simple to run in with a good well nearby and a good filtration system, power can be ran 1ft below the surface in PVC from the main house and b-line down, air filtration is an absolute, along with dehumidifiers, as long as your air flow is cool and dry and clean if your neighbors know you are a bit of a junk collector they would never question a old tire hiding your surface vents, it does require constant co2 and co monitoring, no one wants to be found rotting away in a crazy mans secret bunker months after you went missing. As for building permits laws and codes, the last thing you want is anyone to even think you have built some secret room in your woods, don't bother, do it at night tell the locals you are putting in a septic. Build it to lab specs the only thing that should be able to grow anything is your grow cases, and even then they should be self contained with any exhaust blown directly out. For now I'm just going to build a temporary lab with what I have its in a musty basement, plastic sheeting HEPA filtration dehumidifiers a good acid scrub some sea lent fungicides UV sterilizing fluorescent bulbs and a staging area for suit and decontamination, I'll post it up as i do it this weekend,

digging the hole creates additional logistics of a backhoe or excavator. And depending on the location it can cause flooding issues. An insulated tractor works wonders in that its already insulated and its mobile!

I operate heavy machinery, I'm not too worried about getting a backhoe, it can also be used to drop the container in, I"m fortunate enough to live with clay packed soil flooding isn't an issue 20 years and my basement has never flooded, no sub pump required, the trailer is against my ordinances the home owners association would be up my ass about that sitting on my property,, it can't be burried either,SC's are dirt cheap

if you had any sense of structural engineering- you would see that the loads are supported solely by the reinforced corners. when you throw tons of dirt on top, much less the sides (which are not meant to support loads), they are structurally compromised. RR reinforced his with angle iron. and he later said he would do it with concrete next time.

Go Google "bury a shipping container" and you will understand why they need modification. The walls and roof are actually quite thin and once you backfill, especially if it rains and you put a junk car on top, you will crush the bunker that you're obviously trying to use to grow mass amounts of magic mushrooms.

looking into reinforcement I appeciate the insight, they suggest thismaybe I would just like a place to torture hookers? but seriously not every one is a drug user.assuming everyone has ill intentions is a nasty way to go about life you know.as for the car its a lighter model with the engine removed and the entrance wouldn't be in the roof.

Reinforcement would work.
Your need for secrecy and hiding it not only from the vagrants but from your neighbors says boatloads about your intentions.
The key to life is listening to what people don't say.
