Apologies if any of my description isn't in line with the pictures.
Habitat: Yard, shaded grass under a Japanese maple, NW NJ.
Gills: Light brown attached, gills
Stem: 6cmX2mm, , smooth, hollow, thin
Cap: 2cm, light brown, smooth, conical, convex
Spore print color: Black
Bruising: Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.
Other information: Earthy scent, sort of bready?

I would say looks more like Panaeolina foenisecii. Print seems dark brown rather than jet black.

My first spore print was better (the second one got a little wet) but neither picture is great for that. The print is definitely back though.

Jet Black prints are completely abscent of light. I too would say your prints are dark brown with a bit of a purple hue.
Here is an example of a jet black panaeolus print.

Not a great picture I know, but you get the idea. Unquestionably black.

They look like a Psathyrella species to me.

I think you are right. I thought it at first but changed my mind because the only Psathyrella I've seen like that near me have been in wood chips. The stems say yes to me, though.

Thank you for the input. I'm new to this and I've literally only made 3 spore prints, so I may not have left the cap sitting long enough. I'll make another print and see if I can distinguish whether it's actually black or just dark brown or purple like you guys have suggested. (I don't have a microscope to examine the spores with either)
Anyhow, thanks for the feedback.
