So I have 5 qt of random cube spawn and 5 qt of pan
How big of tubs should I use?

here is the micro mono i use. it's about 25% the size of a full size tub but a little shorter. if your mushies are taller they will just coil up and make room for themselves. it's 9"x6.5" at the base. total volume is 1.9qt at 2" depth. perfect for a 1:1 ratio at 2" or a 1:2 ratio at 3".
here she is in action:

a standard 51qt or 66qt tub should do be fine for 5qt of spawn at a 1:2 ratio of 2"-3" depth. you should use a spawn calculator though. i know there is one around somewhere. does anyone have a link to it?

Lol I just wing it. 66 qt mono is great though. Wouldn't really recommend more.

yea its not really that important as long as you're in the ballpark but its hard to be in the ballpark unless you have something to base it off of.

Tin foil pans with plastic lids (as used to take lasagnia to parties.) Check dollarstores as target overcharges.
Burn holes every 2 inches in the lid with a soldering iron.
They work pretty well and are ideal for a single quart of spawn. Just lightly mist the casing and mist the lid 1-2x a day.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

I should clarify I mixed all the supposedly cube jars together in one mono and the pans that were marked in another. My question is since there different strain in each will colonizing times be compromised?

no. The cube and pan may colonize at different rates though.

Mixing cube strains will increase colonization times. They need to consolidate genetics whenever they meet.

May have not wrote my question right was wondering if the times for each tub would be different then the "average" cube or pan tub.

I would love to see any information substantiating that claim.

Bad news everyone. The cube mono tub got contaminated I'm not to sure why though. Could it be due to the fact my LC was bad and never showed in the spawn jars or maybe the fact I wiped down the new tub with a Clorox wipe before mixing sub and spawn together? Any input would be great.

Yes to the lc. That's why you have to test all liquids on agar first. Also it's best to just start with agar to ensure a clean inoculation. Follow the improve your sterile techniques link in my signature. Even if it didn't have trich in the lc or spawn, bacteria really opens it up for other contaminations like trich.
Another thing that gets a lot of trich is if you cook manure for either too long or too high of a temperature. Manure should be 140-160 for an hour. No more and no less.
Better luck next time. Clean spawn seriously seems to fight that shit like it's nothing.
