Hey gang, I'm finally just starting a post in the forum, although I've been reading and searching through threads for a few months. My curiosity got out of control when I wanted to grow some of my own mushrooms for me, and I bought 20cc of Cambodian and 20cc of PE, not totally realizing 1cc of either would have sufficed. So I started reading up on monotub tek and decided that was the route i was going to go. I've finally got some questions about a few things so here goes....
I've inoculated all of the PE and cased most of it now using different ratios of substrate to coir/horse poo. Havent' had any issues yet except learning what a slow process it is to grow PE in a 1:8ish ratio. I've also got a 1:2 ratio of cased PE going, as well as 1:5. Now, when casing, should all of the grains be covered? I just mixed it all up and put the lid on so the grain is just mixed in everywhere. And is there a way to get a grasp on how much moisture is still in the tubs i did like 3 weeks ago? there is water condensation still around the sides of the tub where the casing is.
I've got 2 jars with PE/Cambodian mycelium, thought i'd see what happened when i threw both spores into the same jar. Will case that next week probably. I honestly expected one species to just take the other one over, maybe thats what happened? Or is it possible for the two species to make a hybrid?
Now the Cambodian is so much different, i'm really glad i got these 2 strains to grow next to each other. Incredibly fast, I had one jar completely cover in 3 days....but there was a contaminant i think because it looked like i had stuffed polyfill on top of the grains, and it was getting a yellowish looking color going down the jar. But it did stop at a distinct line, and the rest of the jar was nice and white and smelled like mushies. So i cased that one jar on its own (the bottom part of the jar, i threw the contaminated portion + another inch of mycelium away) to see what happens, I read Cambodian is pretty agressive as far as not letting other contaminants get in its way.
I'll try to throw some pictures up when I find my camera lol.

-if your tub is taped up while consolidating, your moisture content will be fine. just let it be... -PE and cambodian are actually the same strain (cubensis) so they will work together. yea it's possible to make hybrids but I don't have too much experience with that. -the yellow stuff in your grain jar is probably just metabolites (excreted by your mycelium to fight off contams).
PS. try posting simple questions and you'll get more responses. im guessing nobody responded to your post yet because it was all over the place.
anyways, good luck

Cool, thanks, right now i'm just (im)patiently waiting, nearly everything is now cased and at some stage of colonizing the manure. I've still got some CC's of Cambodian left, along with a few jars that are colonizing...there's just so much lol. thanks for the response
