P. tampanensis pinning on agar
    #21873406 - 06/29/15 12:14 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I got this specimen from a friend on 5/27.  He labeled it "mutant tamp" and when I asked why...he said it produced sclerotia directly on agar.  I've let it grow out, and today I've got pins coming off what I assume are small sclerotia that have formed on the agar surface.  Pretty cool specimen!

Lit from below...showing the "root" looking structures.

I've had Lions Mane and Black Poplar fruit on plates before, and Ive seen morels form microsclerotia in vitro, but that's just goofy. Wonder what signal transduction pathway went out of whack for it to think a parafilmed plate was a good place to go into fruiting...

Not sure...and not sure what to do with it now.  I suppose I need to see how it produces when in the proper environment to see if it's worth keeping around.
