Applying casing soil early: Good or bad?

Here's my situation:
I'm leaving for Europe in 7 days. I'm having my roommate take care of my kit for my while I am away.
I'm hoping to have it in the fruiting phase before I leave however if my kit isn't fully colonized than I might have to apply the layer of casing soil early as my roommate doesn't want to do anything but mist.
Stupidly I started the kit without taking into consideration the extra time it can take for these things to work.. DO you think applying the soil early will result in failure?

If you apply the casing layer before the substrate is 100% colonized than it isn't much of a casing layer at all. Bad idea.

I have no idea how your kit is but generally cubes don't need a casing layer.

Obviously it's better to case it when the sub is fully colonized to ensure an even pinset and prevent contamination. But you should be fine if you case it the day before you leave. Six more days and it will probably be colonized anyways (depending on your ratio). I've cased subs at the time of spawning and they still turned out alright. I sometimes case a day or two early when I run into similar situations as yours. But I know the speed of my culture and am careful not to fruit before 100% colonization.
edit: you got ripped off bro. $100 for a lump of straw.... oh well.
edit 2: did they ship you pre-pasteurized casing material? I was going to say: if you case it a day or two early, make sure your pasteurization is 100% on point.

Let it colonize until 100%, then fruit it.
Casing layers are optional, but if you feel like you must use one, make sure it's properly pasteurized. Good luck!

$100 was for the whole kit which included: cardboard tray with plastic dome lid mixing/grow bag straw substrate casing soil mix vial of casing starter spray bottle prepared mushroom spawn.
I realize now that its a way better and more rewarding to do everything from scratch. Next grow
