So I'm growing some ape, on brf cakes. So far the turn out has been great but I do have some concerns. The tops are blue rather then white, and the stem so to speak is very fluffy. On one of the pins there seems to be a blue specimen growing on the cap, I will include a picture, and some browning where the cap is split. You guys are awesome and I always appreciate your opinions!

You didn't know ape turned blue like that? but the cap with the weird growth looks like mold or a mutation imo.
those fruits look pretty chub, you might want to mist a tiny bit more.

Should i pick it and take the loss? i really dont wanna have an issue with mold, or would it be to late for the whole terrarium?

try cutting the formation off and looking at it, if its mold id pick the fruit it was on and check the next few days to make sure nothing else gets contaminated.
and btw when misting, you want to get the cakes glistening or glossy so they have enough moisture for healthy fruits.

those fruits look pretty good on the other hand, just be aware of funky looking fruits cause PE usually has a lot of mutations.

I think im just gna pull that fruit and hope for the best. i dont have the tools to cut off the moldy looking substance and really have no way of telling if its truly mold or not. Any one else have another idea?

I mean I'd say put it on agar to see what grows out from the anomaly. But you probably don't have agar.
Could put a tiny amount of the pk mixture at the bottom of a jar and grow it on that

yeah it would be extra work for little pay off. But then you'd know if its simply a cap mutation or mold.

Unfortunately I took a cotton swab to it and a very small amount of something came off onto the swab. What would be my next move? Can I prevent this whole batch from going to shit?

when contams are on a cake or substrate, cutting them out never seems to work. But maybe if you just remove the fruit you can save the cake

Took the fruit off completely and disposed of it. Am now just going to wait and watch unfortunately. I'm going to be so disappointed if I get a contaminaton at this point in my grow. Thanks for the help man
