Question about putting contam'ed cakes in the ground.

I saw a thread yesterday that I wasn't able to locate today, but basically it was a thread showing mushrooms growing out of dirt where allegedly contaminated cakes were 'planted'. Now if putting contaminated cakes in the ground does grow mushies wouldn't it be unsafe to consume? I mean I thought the whole reason for getting rid of contaminated cakes was because the mold or whatever growing on the cakes could be deadly to consume or at the very least unhealthy. Could someone please clear this up for me?

I don't think trichoderma will kill you (after unintentionally eating it personally), but it will ruin future grows, and it's a bitch to get rid of. Apparently it sticks onto everything. Putting it outdoors keeps your workspace clean(er).
I hear contaminates on the mycelium won't necessarily make fruits inedible. If it's directly on/in the fruit, should stay away from it.
This the thread? http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21852275/fpart/1

Yep that's the thread. And good to know! I'm glad it works/ is safe to do. I just wanted to be absolutely sure before I tried it myself. I haven't had any contams yet, but I'm expecting to run into one eventually since they seem to be an issue for most. I was thrilled when I seen that thread yesterday because up until then I thought they just had to be trashed.

Spent cakes work too apparently (the one's that aren't producing any more flushes); The mycelium colonizes the soil if it's moist and nutritious enough. I think they were saying you can add lawn clippings and whatnot too. Mad was set on his tarp method also. Apparently it helps hold humidity during hot summer weather.

we pick oyster mushrooms all the time off dead trees cover in molds, they dont hurt you,, if the mushroom looks moldy or rotton then it can hurt you... the molds indoors are bad because they cover your sub before the mycleium can produce mushrooms which is why you get them out of the house.

molds can thrive on plants, but as long as it isn't on the fruit bodies the veggies/fruits are still edible. Same with mushrooms. In fact in the wild there's no such thing as a pile with just mushroom mycelium. Every patch has a contamination. We just want to keep mold spores down in the house.
